Something I didn't relize untill we moved back to the lower 48, was how modern Fairbanks is in so many ways. Where were at now is like living in 1980. In Faibanks there ATM's every where, here there only in banks.
The stop lights there are great. Here we still have to stop at 2:00 am at a red light on the main drag. There are nearly no turn lanes here, narrow roads in town. Way more stores to vist there. The stores have bigger selections there. The Phone co. and the Electric Co. power stays on in all weather conditions. Not here!

I lived in Oceanside California for 20 years and watched more and more people come until it was so crowded and polluted and expensive it wasn't fit to live in anymore.

Ya, what's the deal with shipping. USPS charges the same for all states when it's a large envolope or priority, yet lot's of companys and others.... charge way more on top of that. I think that should be a violation of civil rights (or something). It really gripes me when they do that and US Millitary live in Alaska and defend Alaska just like the rest of the country.
When we were in a store while we lived there, I was behind a guy that was telling a casher about when he was in the United States bla bla bla. I thought were do you think you are now moron?!

SOME ONE ASKED US TODAY ABOUT THE PERMITS WE WILL NEED TO BUILD THE CABIN. Roger went to the bureau to ask about the permits -- they asked us where we are building and when we told them they said we don't need any just take pictures as we build. Is Alaska cool or what??

<We are passing Roslyn Washington, did anyone else enjoy "Northern Exposure"?>

Heck yes, I sure enjoyed it, ,my favorite was (first season) the episode about Soapy Sanderson, where the old timer told the doc, that he had wanted to move to Alaska for 40 years and his wife didnt, the week after she died, he moved up to Alaska!
This was the episode where Joel was named admistrator to Soapy's estate and inherited two huskies.

I can identify with Soapy, that is exactly what I would do also..... already have the huskies....just dont have the land !

On one episode of "Northern Exposure," they showed an envelope addressed to a Cicely resident. The zip code was that of Cantwell.
