In the classroom, Garrett Sheets’ teacher said the sixth grader is an excellent reader and excels in science.
But Sheets said he wants to focus more on the physical sciences, especially chemistry.
“Chemistry is fun because you get to mix stuff together and see what happens,” he said.
Ultimately, the Pearl Creek student said he would like to be an electrical engineer.
Matt Powers, Sheets’ teacher, said the student is kind, helpful, intelligent and diligent. Powers adds Sheets is a thoughtful student who is a great listener and asks compelling questions.
“He has a diverse thinking process that helps him look at things from different perspectives,” Powers said.
Powers also said he selected Sheets for Student of the Week because Sheets is a caring, unselfish student who works well by himself or with others.
Lately Sheets said he has been interested in how motors work after using paperclips, wire, magnets and batteries to make motors in class.
“I like the mental challenge of school and the problems that stretch my mind and make me think,” Sheets said.
In his free time, Sheets enjoys fencing and curling. He is also participates in the Chess Club.
His favorite book is “The Swiss Family Robinson” and Sheets said he likes it because it is full of adventure and hardships.
“I like how the family finds ways to make their life more civilized and they never give up hope,” he said.
