Troopers out in force this weekend

Published Saturday, August 30, 2008

FAIRBANKS — Alaska State Troopers will be out in force this holiday weekend looking for those who break the rules of the road.

In Fairbanks, troopers will have extra patrols on the road specifically looking for those driving recklessly or under the influence.

“Please plan ahead if you’re drinking so that you’re not driving a motor vehicle,” trooper Lt. Lonnie Piscoya said.

Troopers encourage anyone who suspects someone is driving impaired to contact a local law enforcement agency immediately.

Labor Day is traditionally seen as the end of Alaska’s brief summer with temperatures quickly falling afterward. Highway traffic is expected to increase with motorists heading to and from campgrounds for the weekend.

“Plan a lot of time to get to your destination,” Piscoya said. “There’s going to be a lot of people out.”

Troopers also will be increasing enforcement for minor infractions such as seatbelt violations.

Look out! looks like the troopers are out for big revenue. If you don`t give them a reason to pull you over,--don`t worry they will find a reason for you.You can still drive safe with/tinted windows/no rear veiw mirror/cracked winsheild/no license illuminator/but that won`t stop them from trying to get my money.I don`t know if they are concerned about safety, however I think they are WANTING drunk drivers out there.$$$$$$$bottom line$$$$$$$$!

The law is what it is, whether it has an actual affect on safety or not. If you don't want to be pulled over don't give them probable cause. It really is that simple.

    swanny has a point.

Besides, I don't believe the Troopers see anymore of that money than any other state department, last I heard anyway.
