Not only does third-grader Olivia McIsaac excel in art, her teacher Debra Fitzgerald said McIsaac is also a class leader, peacemaker and friend to her classmates.
“She is the first to volunteer to make special cards, posters, etc. And completes these in her free time, often giving up recess, which she loves,” Fitzgerald said.
McIsaac has had her art included in the Up With Art show at Pioneer Park and at the Nordale Elementary art show last spring.
McIsaac said she started drawing at 5 years old and continues to do it because it’s fun and makes her feel good.
“It opens up doors to new worlds and lets you express your feelings,” she said.
In fact, McIsaac loves drawing so much she said she hopes to go study it in college and make a career as an artist. Her other career plan is to help homeless pets because she love animals, especially cats.
When she’s not making art, McIsaac said she likes to swim, bike and camp in the summer. She also has a great love for music with her favorite styles being country and Christian. Her favorite band is Nickleback.
McIsaac has been reading “Ella Enchanted” by Gail Carson Levine.
“I love this book and want to read more of her books,” she said.
Fitzgerald said McIsaac’s art stands out because of her meticulous eye for detail. Also Fitzgerald highlights the young artist’s eye for color. She said it makes each piece look as though a much older and trained student had done the work.
“Each piece that Olivia creates displays her unique imagination,” Fitzgerald said.
She also said McIsaac’s drawing doesn’t just stay in the art class, her art work can be seen in almost all of her academic projects.
“Every single project, not just art projects, but book projects, math work,” Fitzgerald said. “All are done with a great deal of her own drawing style.”
