‘Raisin’ canceled

Fairbanks Drama Association has canceled its planned performance of “Raisin in the Sun.” The play, which was set to open tonight, could not be cast.

Peggy Ferguson, the executive director for FDA, said there wasn’t enough time to stage another play as a replacement. Season ticket holders are being provided with tickets for a play during the 2008-09 season.

‘Wild’ artists sought

Friends of Creamer’s Field is looking for artists, musicians, writers and storytellers for the Third Annual Design Alaska Wild Arts Walk on June 7.

The event, which takes place at Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, is a walking tour of artists displaying and demonstrating their work along refuge trails. Artists are given a chance to create, display and sell their work.

UAF music things

The University of Alaska Fairbanks music department is getting into the swing of spring, with nightly concerts through the weekend at Davis Concert Hall.

The UAF Wind Symphony will hold a concert at 8 p.m. tonight, followed by the University Chorus at 8 p.m. Saturday and the UAF Jazz Band at 4 p.m. Sunday. Each of the concerts costs $10 for the general public, $5 for UAF students. A free recital will also be held by the Cello Choir at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Renaissance Faire planned

Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre is planning a Renaissance Faire on June 28, and is looking for crafts and acts for the event.

Participants should have something that relates to the period between 1100 and 1600, with both performers and vendors being sought. FST will have food booths, children’s play areas, toys, games and face painting.

Volunteer “knights, ladies, pirates and wenches” are needed to help set up and work at various booths and games.

Devin the Dude comes to town

Devin the Dude, a Houston-based rapper, is playing a concert at 7 p.m. tonight at the Chena River Convention Center.

Devin the Dude has performed for the past 15 years, has performed with some of the top names in the industry, such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog and Jay-Z.

He’s also released four solo albums, including 2007’s “Waitin’ to Inhale.” The opening act is Fairbanks’ Hastyle Reign.

Tickets are $30, and are available at RedDot Studio, Hoitt’s Music and the door. VIP tickets are $75 and include an after party at Dogs Bar. For information, call 347-7067.
