To the editor:
According to The Douglass Report (www.douglassreport.com), the idea that fluoridated water prevents tooth decay is a deadly, disgraceful lie.
First of all, the opposite is true. One of the last cities in Europe just stopped using it — Basel, Switzerland. Why?
According to Dr. William Campell Douglass, after they started fluoridating, kids’ cavity rates didn’t go down. By contrast, rates in the rest of fluoride-free Europe did decline.
So why did anyone fluoridate in the first place?
Follow the money.
Fluoride is a byproduct of aluminum production. And aluminum producers must dispose of it. But this is a very expensive proposition prior to fluoridation. Years ago, the only approved uses for fluoride were as an insecticide or a rat poison. And one of the first studies “proving” the anti-cavity power of fluoridated water was funded by the aluminum industry, Douglass states.
People who warned against fluoridation used to be ridiculed, in fact all of Europe and nearly every other medically advanced nation, but they have now banned the practice. Know why?
Douglass said that is because fluoride makes your body absorb extra aluminum. And where does the aluminum go? Your brain. And what metal shows up alarmingly in the brains of Alzheimer’s victims? You guessed it. Hmm ... our health authorities have been drinking too much water.

Wow, Mr. Akguy. I know you think you are being funny, but actually you are showing just how ignorant you actually are. The government could never harm the people. Yep, that's right, just ask the downwinders.
Fluoride has actually been classified as a poison. Yes, there are studies that show how fluoride can help your teeth, but that is in large quantities that are applied topically to your teeth. (remember when you were little, and had it applied directly to your teeth at the dentist?) The studies have NOT shown that ingesting fluoride will help your teeth at all. In fact, it has been linked to many diseases Being an enzyme inhibitor, it is linked to autoimmune diseases such as asthma and Graves disease. Since it is stored in the bones, it is linked to a rise in a particular type of bone cancer. This is only amongst other sicknesses that it has been connected to. Even the American Dental Assoc. does not want small children and infants to drink fluoridated water.
Keep your eyes shut Mr. Akguy the government will always take care of you!
Just checked out Dr. Douglass' site. It's a sales pitch for supplements and filled with conspiracy-mongering about modern medicine. Plenty of claims, but little if any hard data to back himself up. However, when I turned the volume on my computer waaaaaaaayyy up, I heard a distinctive quacking sound.
But hey, it's on the internet, so it must be absolutely factual, right?
I want only fresh, cool, mountain spring water.
If I want flouride, I will take it with supplements thank you very much!
By the way, tooth decay is preventable by BRUSHING your teeth 3x a day, a healthy diet, and not eating sweets or sodas, etc. people. Good lord, my government are now the teeth police.

I don't want flouride in my water for good damn reason. It pisses me off that the borough overuled the feelings of the people because of two dentists opinions. Why risk it when you can easily get it from your toothpaste if you choose to use flouride. I want the choice, not be forced by my government because they think its for my own good.
Dentists believe in the fluoride myth like 6 year old believe in the tooth fairy with less critical analysis. Their trust leads to 51% of kids having dental fluorosis damaged discolored spotted pourous enamel and brittle too. Dentist income has soared with cosmetic repair the big new income source. Always follow the money especially when it is huge to make sense of actions that make no sense otherwise. The other thing is dentists seem to be clueless on how fluoride works in a test given in Indiana( Yoder K M 2007) . Only 17%knew of the new science how fluoride works . They mostly believed the 63 year old theory of drinking it to improve kids teeth. The science now shows only topical benefit now but the old policy will not die with dentists still fluoride ignorant and arrogant. The gold at the end of the fluoride rainbow is all in the restoration dentists pocket. Even a salesman get stuff right sometimes for Douglass he got most of this right. Instead of the Aluminum waste we now get the fluoridation product from smokestack scrubbers at phosphate/uranium mines. It has over 20 toxic contaminates most which are radioactive decay products except for the arsenic,lead cadium selenium,berylium so on. The EPA scientist testified in 2004 the arsenic after dilution still caused 20-25 cases of cancer per million. Also they stopped extracting yellowcake uranium in 1995 at 6 of the 7 plants so we get an extra dose of that now but they will not release how much of the contaminates to even the water plants. No need to worry us and maybe we can save on the light bill if we start glowing in the dark. Yes radium too. Trust your government less the Dr. Douglass if you are wise. They covered up lead, asbestos,DDT and the dentists and doctors did ads for smokes and said it improved lung conditions. Trust is important.Jim Schultz
