The Lathrop Malemutes bounced back from a tough Railbelt Conference loss to the Colony Knights on Friday night to beat the Dimond Lynx in a nonconference high school softball game Saturday at the Interior Girls Softball Association Fields.

Meanwhile, Colony completed a sweep of the Interior by posting a pair of conference wins over West Valley and North Pole.

Ilaura Reeves pitched a one-hitter and smacked a solo inside-the-park home run to help propel the Malemutes the 10-0 five-inning victory.

Nona Letuligasenoa led the Malemutes offensive attack with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Shelby Carlson went 2-for-4 from the leadoff position and designated hitter Taylor Ness contributed a base hit to the winning effort.

Reeves struck out five in posting the win.

“Her changeup was phenomenal today,” said Lathrop co-coach Sarah Cleworth.

Colony sweeps

Colony completed an unbeaten run through the Interior by beating West Valley in extra innings and claiming a 6-3 victory over North Pole.

“It was a tough day for us,” said North Pole coach Rod Avery. “We gave up 10 walks and that really hurt.”

Liz Hall and Kelsie Stidham set the pace for the North Pole offensive attack, but it was enough to overcome the Knights.

Several attempts to reach West Valley coach Togi Letuligasenoa on Saturday were unsuccessful.

Monroe falls

Dimond scored five runs in the last two innings to post a 5-3 come-from-behind nonconference victory over the Monroe Catholic Rams.

Monroe jumped out to a 3-0 lead and pitcher Joscelyn Ribar had a no-hitter through five innings before the Lynx mounted a rally. Dimond tied the game with three runs in the sixth and then took the lead with two more in the seventh.

Ribar recorded two strikeouts and wound up allowing four hits.

“She pitched really well and everybody in the field got the ball hit to them,” Monroe coach Bea Moreno said. “We made some good plays out there today.”

The Rams return to action on Monday when they play North Pole and West Valley at the IGSA Fields.
