West Fairbanks liquor store robbed Thursday night; police seek suspect

Someone robbed the Oaken Keg Spirit Shop in West Fairbanks late Thursday, escaping on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Investigators are looking into whether the suspect is the same man who is being sought for robbing the same liquor store, a bank and a video store during the past seven months, trooper Sgt. Jeremy Rupe said.
The robbery occurred at the Oaken Keg on the corner of College Road and Farmers Loop at about 11:30 p.m.
Two clerks were on duty, although one of them was outside on a cigarette break when the robber entered the store, Rupe said.
The robber reportedly demanded money and then left the store after his demand was met.
Rupe declined to say if the robber was armed, citing the need to keep some details confidential to help authorities narrow in on a suspect. More information will be forthcoming as the investigation unfolds, he said.
A dog from the Fairbanks Police Department was called to the scene and tracked the robber’s scent until it ended near Beaver Sports, leading authorities to suspect the robber left the area in a vehicle, according to police records.
Police officers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and FBI agents were also called to the scene, Rupe said.
A woman who answered the telephone at the liquor store on Friday said employees had no comment. The store was previously robbed on Oct. 17.
Authorities think the same suspect may have robbed the Oaken Keg and ETZ Video in Chena Pump Plaza on Jan. 15 and then the Denali State Bank on Feb. 2 and Feb. 20.
That suspect has been previously described as a white man, approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet in height, of average build, and in his late teens to mid-20s. The robber, who covers his face, does not brandish a firearm but claims to have one.
Anyone with information about any of the robberies is asked to call troopers at 451-5100.
