Juanita Jane Mullins
1934 - 2008
Mullins
Former North Pole resident Juanita June Mullins, 73, went home to heaven on April 30, 2008, after a short illness in Visalia, Calif.
June was born in Alton, Ill., in October 1934. In 1952 a family friend encouraged her to be a pen pal with a young man heading to Korea during the war. June sent the letter with the friend and since that young man had already left, it was given to Weldon Mullins in California. After a year of continuous writing they married on April 10, 1953.
In 1963 in Riverside, Calif., together with another family, they started a Christian rehabilitation home for alcohol and drug addiction. In 1969 they became missionaries to Alaska to start the first Christian rehabilitation home in the state.
June Mullins strived to succeed. She went from high school dropout to doctor of philosophy in Christian psychology. She had a lifelong desire to help people that were down and out.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. It will be a great day of rejoicing when once again they are reunited.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna Crum; and her son, David Mullins.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Weldon Mullins; and her daughter, Sharon Mullins.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Ivanhoe Family Worship Center, 32471 Road 160, Visalia, Calif.
