A transmission tower along the power line from the Snetisham hydroelectric dam to Juneau, lays in ruins following a massive avalanche roughly 40 miles from town, in Juneau on Friday, April 18, 2008. Juneau's main hydroelectric power source was taken offline by a massive avalanche early Wednesday morning, causing the local power company, Alaska Electric Light and Power, to go to solely diesel power generation; which will result in a potential increase of up to 50 cents per kilowatt-hour from a low of 11 cents.
