Patrick Burke, who lives outside Buffalo, N.Y., sent the News-Miner this photo of life in downtown Fairbanks during the 1960s. Burke was stationed at Fort Wainwright as a member of the 47th Infantry, 1st Battalion, from May 1968 to January 1970, and was given this photo by an Army buddy, David Berry, during a visit about six years ago. Burke said he isn't sure when the photo was taken, but the movie at the old Lacey Street Theater, "The Flight of the Phoenix," may offer a hint. The Jimmy Stewart film was released in 1965. — Jeff Richardson, features editor
