Photo by University of Alaska Fairbanks archives

This panoramic photograph, taken from the north side of the Chena River looking south, was probably taken in 1905 from near the location of today's Denali State Bank and Doyon Buildings. The buildings on the left side of this photo were destroyed in the 1906 fire, and all but a few of the buildings on the right side of the picture have been torn down over the years for "progress." Look at what a wide river and beach the Chena used to be! — Candy Waugaman
