Probably taken in Valdez at the far end of their trip, this photograph by P.S. Hunt shows the "Passengers and 2800 lbs Gold Dust from Fairbanks by Kennedy's Stage." At the time of the haul, the dust in the boxes was probably worth half a million dollars; today it would be worth about $42 million. I guess that explains why there are pistols hanging from the crates and rifles leaning up on the end … although I doubt one man could life up a box and take off with it!
