Denali Elementary School first grade teacher Deana Martin-Muth, left, and her student Emiley Webb pull bird vetch from around willow saplings in Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge on Monday, May 12, 2008. The first grade classes have conducted a year-long research project on the invasive plant and its growth in the boreal forest. By removing the dead plants, the first graders are giving the sun-loving native plants a chance to sprout.
