Scott Houghton, who provides science support to researchers at Toolik Field Station, checks out large, colorful eggs an Arctic Easter bunny left along the snowy entrance road. The eggs are carved out of windblown snow. The bunny, aka Houghton, colored them with food coloring and warm water in a spray bottle. At 30 degrees below zero, colored ice formed on the outside. Toolik Field Station is at 284.5 Mile on the Dalton Highway. The Toolik Field Station, open year-round and operated by University of Alaska Fairbanks' Institute of Arctic Biology, is a national center for research on climate change and plant and animal adaptation in the Arctic.
