Supervisor of the Anchorage cyber crimes unit gets scam e-mail
Published Tuesday, November 11, 2008
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A scam came to the attention of Anchorage police when an e-mail arrived in the inbox of the supervisor of the cyber crimes unit.
The fake e-mail appeared to be a customer satisfaction survey from Wal-Mart but it was obviously a credit card scam that has been circulating online, said Sgt. Ron Tidler.
The e-mail message offers the chance to win a $150 gift certificate by agreeing to complete the survey. It then directs users to another Web site to pull off the hoax.
Once there, users are encouraged to fill out the survey and enter in their credit card and pin numbers so the $150 can be applied to their accounts, police said.
Wal-Mart confirms that the e-mail is a scam. The company does not ask for personal financial information through e-mails.

I'd be more surprised if (s)he wasn't receiving scam e-mails. The sad thing is that people actually fall for these things.
I get these all the time, why doesn't newsminer report on my spam email? Oh, thats not DNM, thats AP.
I got on in my Po box the other day saying I wont 85,000 so they sent a 4,900 check to help with "processing fees".. It was a real check, it burned quite well too.
So the story never said how much they duped him for...
