Palin conditionally comfortable with Obama on Iraq
Published Wednesday, November 12, 2008
WASHINGTON -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has given President-elect Barack Obama a conditional vote of confidence on handling the war in Iraq.
Palin, who has been granting a series of interviews this week, said she would feel comfortable with the Illinois Democrat as commander in chief so long as he surrounds himself with advisers who understand threats against the United States.
In an interview broadcast Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show, Palin was asked whether she felt secure with the notion of Obama being in charge of national security.
She replied: "I'm comfortable with Barack Obama as our commander in chief, assuming that he has those around him who recognize .... that terrorists have not changed their minds ... Those who recognize what the threat is and how to deal with the threat."
Palin's oldest son, Track, is serving in Iraq.

So then why did she just spend two months telling us Obama was a dangerous socialist who associated with terrorists and was going to bring our country down? Walk your talk, Governor...
Come on AK-WDB - Did you just fall off the turnip wagon or just got born. Palin did say, if you would have read it, that Obama has to surround himself with those that still know that the terrorists want to kill us. What else is she going to say or any of us for that matter. You had better hope she's right. Obama will be Commander in Chief, that's a given but you had better pray he will listen to those who know who the terrorists are. Who are even now flexing their muscles. And you haven't forgotten Biden's prediction have you?
CPW
AK-WDB...What would you have Palin say? Obama is President Elect..that's a given. She's willing and hopeful, as are all Americans, to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he listens to those with more experience than him. What else can we, or she, do? We have no choice at this point.
Im sure that Obama will sleep better knowing that Palin somewhat approves of him, I hear it was weighing in him emotionally...
I disagree with Palin on this one! Obama is not going to listen to the experienced. Thats a given my fellow Americans. He is going to do what Mr. Obama feels like doing. And he is promising change. And change it shall be. Too bad that by the time America learns what he is really all about, it will be too late! Why America? Why did you vote him into office? I know Palin is trying to show "no hard feelings" and b.s. like that but her statement is way misleading. I really like Palin. She would have made a great Vice President. Heres to 2012!
So I wonder if Ms. Palin is just as worried about people who belong to a group that feels Alaska should secede from the union? A group whose original leader so detested the US that he was quite public in his statements to that effect?
I wonder if Ms. Palin is just as worried that she is married to a fellow who has twice belonged to such a group, she has attended their conventions, and she specifically welcomed them to a conference this past summer?
Or has all of this slipped away from that conveniently selective memory she hides under that 1960's hairdo? Obama had a very distant association with the one-time "terrorist". Palin is still married to hers.
BTW, jmail....after all your ranting and raving about Obama it looks like you might be right! I understand he has entered a secret pact with aliens from the planet Wuzbo to enslave all Americans with less than a college education and turn them into giant rabbits through a process known only to the Wuzboians. After that, they will sell them to hunting preserves down south where Dick Cheney can shoot away to his heart's content! Migosh, you've hit the nail right on the head with everything you've told us about Obama all these weeks!
Agnes, I think Governor Palin should have said something to the effect that she actually knows so little about national security that she is unqualified to answer. She should have stated that she fully supports President-elect Obama, instead of offering her conditional support. And she should have said to the interviewer, I got to go now, because I have a state to govern!
I agree with our Governor. I don't believe that Obama in and of himself has ANY idea what to do about terrorism, either from inside or from without, and his statements regarding how he would handle our sworn enemies left me plenty to be concerned about. I very much hope that he surrounds himself with experts on the subject who study it daily and that he listens to what they have to say and acts on their advice. And I am giving him the benefit of the doubt to do just that!
If recent history is any guide:
........In a fatwa published on the eve of the U.S. elections, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi expressed his preference for Sen. John McCain as president: "Personally, I would prefer for the Republican candidate, [John] McCain, to be elected. This is because I prefer the obvious enemy who does not hypocritically [conceal] his hostility toward you... to the enemy who wears a mask [of friendliness]."
Al-Qaradhawi added: "Whoever thinks that the Democrats are less hostile to [the Arabs] than the Republicans should know that the number of Iraqis killed during the siege [of Iraq] by the Democrat Bill Clinton is twice as high as the number of [Iraqis] killed by the Republican [George] Bush.
"The Democrats kill you slowly without you noticing it - and therein lies the danger. They are like a snake whose touch is not felt until its poison enters your body. .........
Sarah, DUUUH!!! Like she would know any more than Obama.
Palin needs to get a grip. I'm so sick of the Republicans continuing to try spread the fear in stating what they believe Obama will or will not do. For someone who said Obama palled around with terrorists to she is anxious to work with him on energy issues and now to this. I just can't believe anything that comes out of her mouth anymore. She shouldn't worry about what Obama is going to do. She couldn't listen to her own handlers, doesn't take anyones good advice and has absolutely no common sense.
The AIP is not a terrorist group, dobieman, and it may be that before long, many Alaskans will be advocating secession.
.
Dobieman, the connecting your trying to make is weak at best. Don't run about whining about Palin's connections and be completely unwilling to acknowledge some of President-elect Obama's. Her husband is entitled to be a registered as a democrat, a republican, an undecided, or as an AIPer, the party he registers with is irrelevent.
akrose, Why is that? If guilt by association is fair game, then she and pretty much every other politician is just as guilty. If guilt by association is not fair game, then there is nothing to worry about either of them. The notion that Obama is a terrorist sympathizer because he sat on a Republican founded educational board with a reformed domestic terrorist is absolutely ridiculous and should have been laughed out of the political arena instead of touted by the GOP.
What's guilty about her husband being an AIP member 10 years ago??
I didn't mention AIP. I said if guilt by association is fair game, then she and every other politician is just as guilty. Most people too. Life's dirty, if you do pretty much anything you're going to come into contact with people who have done something bad. Some reformed, some not. It's why guilt by association is a stupid game to play.
