GCI phone system out in Interior Alaska

FAIRBANKS -- Service went down for most Fairbanks-area GCI customers on Friday evening, and the company is still working to restore land-based phones in the area.
GCI spokesman David Morris said the cause of the outage, which began at 5:02 p.m., is still unknown. He said most GCI services were restored within 15 minutes, but voice services are still in the process of being fixed.

I was told there was a 5 car accident at Airport & Cowles and someone hit a pole or something and that knocked the phones out. How come the cab drivers figured that out, but GCI can't?
You don't know what you are talking about. That accident had nothing to do with the outage.
In my entire life I suspect I could count the number of times the phone hasn't worked on one hand. The old phone system worked through heavy snow, power outages and even earthquakes. In the months since GCI brought our phone modem in we have had two outages. They get one more before they lose another customer.
You know taters, I've been thinking the same thing.
I barely EVER remember having phones go out... Really, ever?
And, yesterday mine went out multiple times. Once I was in the middle of a long distance phone call. Once I was trying to call out...
My cel phone still worked the entire time.
That's just bogus. Some great "new" system they have here...

The interesting thing about this outage is that it affested both cell phones and land lines.
affested. Hmm. Maybe that means they were both affected and infested?? lol
Have you seen the GCI comercials? They always have the moron as the white male, if it is the stupid white males that they portray in those GCI comercials,out doing the maintanence and upgrades on the GCI system it's no wonder the system does not work.
Maybe they should hire the minorities and women, for the field work?
If you have seen the GCI comercials, it is always the women and the minorities that are portrayed as the smartest ones in the room, maybe they should be out in the field working on GCI systems?
