Sensational headline

To the editor:
With a Fairbanks North Star Borough School District net gain of 37 students (14,140 minus 14,103), I don’t understand why the (Nov. 12) article is headlined with “Growing pains.”
Even when adjusted to include the new correspondence program, will this population gain warrant the sub-headline “As enrollment increases, district feels the strain?”

no but maybe we should WORRY about the PRESENCE of the children in schools because it seems to me some are skipping ENGLISH CLASS.
AKBOSS, hate to tell you but Fairbanks is a small town. It won't be just the military but all federally funded positions will be up for consideration in the new federal budget.
I don't think this headline was "sensational." Look at the problem at Badger Road Elementary, they have already moved the 6th graders and they are still at capacity. What are they going to do with the new students? And the rest of the North Pole schools are facing big enrollment numbers too. What if North Pole keeps growing?
"The largest area of growth was North Pole.
At the beginning of the 2008-09 school year, sixth-graders from Badger Elementary School were moved to North Pole Middle School to help alleviate the problem of overcrowding.
But a class size update from October showed many North Pole elementary schools had more than the target number of students. Badger Elementary had 13 classes between kindergarten and third grade that were over target. Fisher said North Pole schools are 'maxed out.'"
That's directly from the story in question. I fail to see how the headline was sensational when you have a school official calling North Pole schools maxed out. And the photo was of a crowded North Pole school, further reiterating the point of the story and headline. It was not sensational.
Get the Government out of Alaska? Who could ask for anything more!
