Scared

To the editor:
I believe this is a pathetic time for Alaskans. This is the first time since Sept. 11 I have been scared for the state of my country.
I am Alaska-born, and an avid gun owner and hunter. Living in Alaska, I am proud to have the best access to big game hunting so my husband and I can feed our kids. I also frequently need to carry a .44 Magnum on my hip when using the little girl’s bush, because this is bear country. Grizzly attacks are all too real to me, especially after my cousin was dragged from her tent in Katmai National Park and mauled beyond recognition and almost lost an arm and leg.
Obama is out to take my right to defend myself away from me. He and/or Biden have avidly supported bans on handguns and prosecution of those who used guns for self-defense in the home. They have supported bans on almost all centerfire and hunting ammunition. What does that mean for Alaskans? Obama does not understand our rural livelihood and the simple way we “survive.”
I am deeply upset by biased media coverage. McCain’s speeches were brief, while the media provided free campaigning for Obama. Not to mention they interrupted my baseball game for his info-mercial. It’s a sad day when a presidential candidate can interrupt the game — the least he could have done would have been to throw out the first pitch. Sarah Palin was good enough to at least toss a puck, not bore us with politics during a vital sporting event.
I am afraid for my country and my Second Amendment rights. I am afraid for my livelihood and I am afraid for Alaska. The only good thing to come of this entire election is that I get my governor back. Maybe in four years she’ll have had enough of Obama and run for president herself. Not everyone will agree with me, but she is the classiest lady in politics and the poster child for “Alaska girls kick @#$!”

whine whine whine...
Repeat after me:
"Obama will not take my guns or infringe on my Second Amendment rights."
"Obama will not take my guns or infringe on my Second Amendment rights."
"Obama will not take my guns or infringe on my Second Amendment rights."
I swear, if there was a cure for the propaganda the NRA spreads, I'd slip it in the Fairbanks water supply.
i dont think you need to worry to much. obama sez he supports the right to bear arms. he did say he believes in local regulations and i doubt theres any where you live. id think id died and gone to heaven if i lived in a state that allows you to carry concealed without a permit
You should be scared Melissa, you fell for the NRA's "Obama is anti-gun" propaganda, and you just admitted to it in the newspaper. Now every bridge salesman and con-man in the state is going to be after you. You've made yourself a target as a sucker that will believe anything!
What exactly is a "vital sporting event" ? Silly letter. Put the Rifleman magazine down and just walk away.
News for you, mrrogers, you're in heaven. :)
.
Gee, I wonder if the letter's author supports the gun rights of the skinheads who were planning on assassinating Obama? You know...a pre-emptive strike, so to speak. And afterwards they could gather up all the other people that might disagree with them and perhaps build them a special NRA-approved compound. A little barbed wire here, a few guard towers there with machine guns (of course). Gotta protect those gun rights over everything else. After all, what's an Alaskan without 15 or 20 guns and the right to shoot anything they want with them?
While we're at it, we need to put up more highway signs. I've noticed many of them are so full of bullet holes it's hard to find anything at which to aim anymore. Gotta get those state-sponsored targets set up so people driving along have something to shoot at when those darned animals are too busy elsewhere tearing limbs off people.
Obama has a PROVEN record of trying to strip Americans of their constitutional right to keep and bar arms.
That is a fact, liberals.
I visited Sportsman' Warehouse tonight. The shelves were bare of almost all types of handgun ammo. AR-15s or Ruger mini 30s can not be found. Gunowners are reacting to what they know the nitwits like Chucky Schumer will do with their new power.
The Stock market fell about 10% in the two days after Obama was elected. Investors were reacting just as gun owners are to what they believe Obama will do.

This is almost as bad as Y2K.

By no means am I an Obama supporter,
but I am curious to hear why and how everyone thinks that Obama has the power to eliminate guns?
He might put some tight regulations on them, but what is in your gun safe is yours. I asure you of that.
Keep drinking the Kool-aide Melissa
While Gun and Amunition manufactures are making record profits from their dissinformation campaine, they laugh all the wa to the bank.
If you want to know why Sportsmen Warehouse is out of supplies ask them about there policy of cancelling orders from suppliers that openly suported the Obama campain like Cooper Arms.
I will no longer shop at S.W. or Cabellas for that reason.
rubberroom, your statement is about as accurate as your spelling.
You're up your ... too, gdotz. What you call "assault rifes" aren't assault rifles at all, not that knowing what you're talking about makes a lot of difference to you.
Worst, as usual, is dobieman. A walking case of depression who daily insists on rubbing it on the rest of us.
With all the issues we are faced with in this country today, do you really think that taking away your 'right to defend yourself' is at the top of Obama's (or a democratic controlled congress for that matter) list of priorities? The NRA politics of fear has created an army of single issue voters, and manipulated the minds of people who are so paranoid that they can no longer think for themselves on an issue.
The current administration has wrecked the economy, engaged us in two wars on the basis of misinformation and lies at the cost of thousands of American lives, destroyed our credibility in the international community, and significantly widened the gap between the middle and upper class in this country. They never threatened gun rights however. So - does that make us all better off?
An Obama administration won't threaten your precious gun rights either. It will be too busy trying to undo the damage of the current administration and dealing with the real issues that face this nation.
This is a rediculus article. You should be fear Obama taking your guns away or taking away your right to defend ourself (which by the way is different than hunting to feed your family). What you should fear is the scare tactics that are still being used to make people fear their President. What is scary is the hatred and fear in our country today. People are making verbal and written threats againts Obama. People are teaching their children this hatred also. That is what is scary!!! So, go out and buy more guns if that makes you feel safe, could this possibly be a way to get people to spend more money?
Ha Ha Ha, Another schizophrenic writes a letter and expects to be taken seriously. LOL!!! (Hey melissa, I heard there will be UFO's mixed in with the meteor shower tonight......)
The amount of delusional people in this town/country is astounding, the people that believe that obama is going to "take their guns" are the same nut-jobs who believed in Y2K, who STILL say Saddam had WOMD, Who believe that the "government" is hiding Aliens at Area-51 and Roswell and that the Feds took out JFK and staged the moon landing, there is no "Sasquatch" or " bigfoot" either you wackos.
Sometimes it's like people write these articles to give Republican whiners a bad name, but I don't think they're that creative and they actually DO believe the nonsense they write- HILARIOUS!
But I guess we need MORE guns in Fairbanks because there obviously are not enough horses, dogs or humans being shot around here.
---------
Don't think I haven't capitalized off of all the paranoia going on- Just like Y2K when I knew that people would be buying generators by the dozen for the same paranoid reasons people are trying to hoard their guns & ammo now.......For all the "poor" "hard-workers" in this community y'all sure seem to have plenty to spend on ridiculously priced firearms, THANKS! (I've made a killing so far)
(No, I'm not worried that writing this will keep people from buying my guns as nobody knows who "LostAlaskan99712" is, if you boy's only knew how much I'm making off your paranoid delusions, HA!)
I'm scared too. Is someone gonna come for my skis? All this talk of the government being anti-ski was obvious at the ski-swap yesterday. Folks were on the verge of blows over the last few pairs of ski poles left.
In order for our gun rights to be taken away it would take a Constructional amendment, as the Supreme Courte recently ruled by giving Washington DC back its right to own hand guns.
And what’s wrong with a .38 special, it is a perfect gun for a woman, it’s small, fits in a purse, and it packs a punch.
I would also like to say: the election is OVER, enough already!
I guess that if you want to stop a ball from rolling you through a pebble under it before it starts.
Haha, it's this letter that's pathetic. I don't agree with Obama on gun control, but this is just ridiculous paranoia. Just so you know, Melissa, there have actually been Democratic presidents in the past, and you have not lost your guns yet.
Do not forget Obama taught Constitutional law and understands how legally you can get around the Constitution with regulations. There is a reason why ammo and guns are flying off the selves. The eroding of gun ownership will not be done by a change in the Constitution but in the regulations to restrict.. Buy now, and have your supply on hand. They are a great investment because the prices will continue to rise with new regulations.
To not think that part of the agenda of the national Democratic party is gun control, or ammunition control, is to ignore the past 50 years. I choose not to.
I'm more afraid of the propensity of the national Democrats to stifle free speech. Political Correctness already inhibits free speech, to the point that if you are found offensive, you are vilified in the press, and judged an outcast by a willing public. Remember the Atlanta Braves pitcher who described his ride on a New York subway. The reaction to his comments was just short of a public lynching.
Now, if a reporter questions Joe Biden too harshly, they are reprimanded. Yesterday, I heard a tape of an interview that was hostile to Chris Dodd. The offending reporter was fired before the sun went down. The Fairness Doctrine (an ironic double-speak title if ever there was one) is being threatened to silence conservative talk radio. Not liberal network broadcasting, or liberal front page opinion writing by the NYT, the Post, the LA Times, or the AP. Only talk radio would be deemed "unfair" under the Fairness Doctrine.
National Democrats believe in freedom of speech, for Democrats.
There is a reason why ammo and guns are flying off the selves
you bet your but there is. it's because nuts like melissa really believe NRA propaganda and think obama is going to cross the second amendment out of the constitution. give me a freakin' break!!!

. . . President Bush inherited the Clinton's administration fiscal policy of forcing banks to loan subprime mortage money. Fannie and Freddie will buy your paper. House of cards do fall and this one fell during the Bush Administration. Clinton was offered Osama Ben Ladin on a silver platter twice and regected the offer. Then we had 9/11. Now we are back to what started all this mess in the first place. . .
CPW
Absolutely! The Clinton Administration built the house of cards that caused the sub-prime mortgage meltdown, the foundation of our current recession, by first repealing the Glass-Steagal Act which was designed to prevent exactly the kind of mess we've been dealing with this year, and by next mandating affirmative action quotas for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And it just happened to be on Bush's watch that the house of cards fell down. You can blame Bush for a lot of things, but the current recession in his country lays squarely on the shoulders of the Clinton administration. And gee, just look how many Clinton Administration alumni Obama is already calling to his team! Does anyone honestly think Obama would be against those kind of affirmative action mortgage quotas that caused this mess?
And tonto12 is correct, Obama has a well documented record of trying to strip Americans of their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I've never owned a gun, but I'm thinking about getting one now before I lose the option.
Guess Melissa should think twice...no maybe three or four times before she posts sorry letters for all to see.
With all this country is dealing with in the present day, and you're whining and sniveling over something not necessarily true.
As one poster said much earlier, put the damn magazines down, and get with the real deal.
As "Auntedna" said, "in order for gun rights to be taken away, it would take a Constitutional amendment."
This country's financial situation is in the toilet, jobs going there too, etc. etc. and this is all you've got for a reason to dislike President-elect Obama?
Finally, since you choose to rehash the recent past, and come off as very bitter at current events, (Sarah Palin dropping hockey pucks at games? Are you kidding me?) I second "Auntedna's" emotion. The election is over, please get on with life.
Yet another poster complaining over the Obama campaign.
The infomercials PAID for by the Obama campaign, and aired by a number of major networks was a smart move.
As far as "free" advertising, where have you been.
Any "free" advertising Obama got, McCain would have to be given equal time.
If said major networks had a problem with infomercials interfering with your precious baseball game, they would have said so.
In this era of "Money talks," apparently they didn't.
Don't think you would've been complaining had the McCain/Palin ticket had the money to do the same.
Melissa....enjoy the last days of Bush ("G-Dub" that is, not the "little girl's bush you speak of when clutching your .44). McCain's back in the Senate, and Sarah? Well she's back in Alaska again...very accessible, when she's not doing interviews all over the damn place.
Maybe you two could go to the range sometimes...pop off some rounds and commiserate on why many more Americans actually bought the Obama/Biden ticket...than McCain/Palin."
tax ammunition 10,000%. charge people with murder for shooting burglars or rapists that break into your home. a good lawyer could find a ton of ways around an inconvenient constitutional amendment. right now we have a supreme court that upholds the 2nd amendment. but one new left leaning judge and they can define the miltia as someone other than average joe citizen thus freeing the government to enact all sorts of gun ban laws for average citizens. obama and nancy pelosi don't think of alaska when they want to ban guns. they think of south chicago or harlem. if they ever bother to think of hunters they think of some plaid jacketed guy in minnesota or wisconsin. the idea that a bear might threaten a humans life is totally alien to them.
if they ever do come to get your guns (doubtful), just say no. if they
