Ethics complaint filed against Palin

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A resident of Gov. Sarah Palin's hometown has filed a complaint against her, saying she broke Alaska ethics rules.

Zane Henning of Wasilla says Palin improperly held national television interviews from the governor's office about her unsuccessful run as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Henning says Palin promoted her future political career on state property.

The governor's office says Palin was not a candidate at the time of the interviews.

Henning's complaint, filed Tuesday, asks the Alaska Personnel Board to investigate his claim.

Ethics complaints are confidential unless their targets waive confidentiality or allegations are found to have merit. Assistant Attorney General Judy Bockmon says, however, that while the ethics law calls for confidentiality, that doesn't mean a complaint will be thrown out because it was publicized by the person who filed it.

The last sentence is confusing. Since the story is published and presumably not a leak; does it mean that the allegations have no merit or the governor has waived her rights? Maybe I'm misuderstanding what a complaint being confidential means.

    Brandon,
Essentially, complaints are supposed to be handled confidentially. Apparently, Mr. Zane Henning wants this to be a media circus, so has leaked the complaint (from the impression given in the article). Palin is basically saying even though it has been leaked, that she plans to uphold the confidentiality policy, even if those accusing her don't think it is as important.

Mr. Henning needs to crawl back under his rock - it's butt heads such as him that just keep the quagmire stirred up. Mr. Henning if you REALLY feel the need to rack muck go do your thing towards Don Young, former Senator Ted Stevens and the king of the sleeze, former Gov Frank Murkowski. Oh, and by the way - YOU personally will pay for the investigation UP-FRONT.

It is the Obamabots and their Chicago Dirty Tricks political Machine training that keeps leading to the shots being taken at Sarah Palin by those who support the Obamessiah.

The LIAR, Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.), who pretended to support the Second Amendment proceeds to appoint a White House Chief of Staff, anti-gun Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel, and more importantly to appoint to the Office of U. S. Attorney General, a Mr. Eric Holder. Mr. Holder signed an amicus brief in the Heller case that supported the District of Columbia’s handgun ban. Mr. Holder also argued that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual right. Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb also said of Mr. Holder, “He has supported national handgun licensing and mandatory trigger locks. As deputy attorney general under Janet Reno, he lobbied Congress to pass legislation that would have curtailed legitimate gun shows."

    LINK: http://www.saf.org/viewpr-new.asp?id=282...

So folks, the assault on Sarah Palin by those who are working feverishly to destroy opponents of Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.) (aka Barry Soetoro , aka Barack Hussein Obama) continues and resources of Alaskans are now being used in baseless complaints and investigations of Sarah Palin for the possible benefit of Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.). Sickening... Legal WELFARE for the benefit of "The One"... The Obamessiah.

I agree with bobgray1 that Mr. Henning should pay for the ethics board to "investigate" such a ridiculous complaint with his own funds. Maybe the state should pass some kind of frivolous complaint law that requires just that.

How many of you knew about Murkowski's jet before hand? Would you have said yes to such an expenditure? Without people constantly looking into what our elected officals are doing, they get away with anything. Had I known about Sarah's per diem, I would have questioned why they didn't change her duty station to Anchorage and eliminate the need for per diem. It was an easy fix...but no one knew about it until the media started digging into every aspect of her life. This complaint may be unfounded, but, it may put EVERYONE in government service on notice that eyes are on them to do the right thing.

Sooooo, when Sarah files 36 complaints against a state employee after a nasty divorce from her sister (despite writing him a glowing letter of recommendation before he was hired) just to see what will stick, and then complains when the results of the investigation are kept from her, it's OK, but when a concerned citizen files a single complaint against her and then makes it public, he's a sore looser? Can someone please explain the difference to me?

Hey 1AK - You're not one of those bloggers "sitting in their parents' basement, wearing their pajamas" that Gov. Palin described in her Fox interview are you? Just wondering. I mean, I comment occasionally when I'm moved to do so, but according to your profile, you've got 458 comments under your belt just since July... And to my memory, most of those comments denigrate Democrats. Did some Dem in your childhood beat you up or something? They (we) can't be all bad! We actually want some of the same things you do - freedom, justice, good, honest government, and jobs that pay a living wage. That's all.

And if Gov. Palin says that she's going to champion ethics reform, we want to believe that she will adhere to those reforms herself. Sen. Stevens got into trouble by failing to realize that the laws he helped passed applied to him, too. I think that you want our elected officials to follow the laws they themselves helped pass, don't you? I don't know this guy, Henning, but if he's a "watchdog", then that's what he does. You and I live in the Interior, and all we know is what we read in the papers. We leave it to others to see that our officials are doing their jobs legally. There's no plot by anybody on a national scale, as Andrew suggests - it's somebody taking action where he feels action should be taken.

Then let him take action on something of substance. The budget is due in less that a month, and the last one was based on $84.00 a barrel. Sarah has a LOT of work to do so unless she does something worthy of investigation, like perhaps shove a broomstick up some Dem watchdog guys behind on the town square, lets just leave her alone for a couple of weeks and let her get OUR work done.
Plenty of time to check her laundry basket for dirty undies AFTER this gets done!

I read newspapers and review blogs where people from California, Georgia, Alaska, Arizona, Florida, and Texas often write about matters of national political interest. I engage in this "hobby" since this Presidential Cycle has proven to be "unique". In my review I have noted a distinct and fairly uniform campaign of denigrating Sarah Palin, the only candidate other than the Obamessiah who garnered large crowds during the Presidential Campaign which just concluded.

One can say there is not a plot by anybody on a national scale to denigrate Sarah Palin. See... I can write that too. Moreover, I have no absolute PROOF that anyone IS engaged in a systematic smear campaign such as those typically engaged in by the Chicago Mayor OLD MAN Daley Political Machine when it sought to destroy candidates and individuals who had political "CAPITAL" or had other political aspirations which could prove bad to the old Mayor or one of his Cronies.

HOWEVER, now we have a President-elect who hails from the same Chicago roots as that INFAMOUS Chicago DIRTY TRICKS POLITICAL MACHINE and wonder of wonders the only other candidate who has political appeal from that Presidential Race is being virtually continuously assaulted across the Country in the States that I have identified; at least. Indeed that same "COMMUNITY ORGANIZER" trained ACORN personnel to "organize the community" (*I wonder if the community knew that it needed organizing - or if the community appreciated the community organizing of ACORN? LOL*) and now we have the Chicago Dirty Political Tricks Style campaign to SMEAR Sarah Palin going on across the country; I do not believe in coincedences. Perhaps you do.

In that same vein, my commentary, both above with the LIAR Barack Hussein Obama reference and the examples of his LIES relative to Gun Control and the same post relative to Chicago Political Dirty Tricks Machine is EXACTLY RESPONSIVE to the subject matter of the trumped up "Ethic Complaint" of the letter writer.

So Obamabots, I think my posts, both the above post and this one are very relevant to the original "ASSOCIATED PRESS" (Pro Obama Network All The Time) story.

Since Sarah was a newcomer to the political stage on a national and has had a relative easy time in the first 22 months of office, it will be interesting to see how she does and is remembered now that OIL REVENUE is FALLING and the ECONOMY is TANKING. It does not matter who is at fault it is that the price on a barrel of oil is around $55. Although THOSE that PLANNED ON $85 barrel of oil are NOW IN THE HOT SEAT.

It also did not help that Sarah was shown in BAD LIGHT on the national stage as vacuous, BUT now we need LEADERSHIP. I am waiting to see what happens NOW. On top of that TAKING ON ONES OWN party carries consequences. Hmmm, time for popcorn.

If Governor Palin had qualified staff in her office, instead of her friends from Wasilla High School, someone knowledgeable about state ethics laws would have cautioned her against conducting interviews in the governor's office. She clearly violated Alaska's ethics laws, and needlessly. If she had known better, she could have done the interviews in a local coffeeshop. This is yet another example of how our governor is basically CLUELESS. And that's fine--savvy politicians surround themselves with smart know-it-alls to keep them out of trouble and to know stuff like this. But Our Sarah hired her know-little friends from high school instead of staff who are qualified.

CPW, I was commenting solely on Alaska Executive Branch ethics rules (that I have now gone to look up: http://www.law.state.ak.us/pdf/ethics/et...), which state:

Sec. 39.52.120. Misuse of official position
    (a) A public officer may not use, or attempt to use, an official position for personal gain, and may not intentionally secure or grant unwarranted benefits or treatment for any person.

The other part that is likely important is in the same section, following B)6:

    (A) means having the intent to differentially benefit or harm a
    (i) candidate or potential candidate for elective office; or
    (ii)political party or group;

Regardless of my opinion of the politician involved, I don't feel informed on the issue at hand to make qualified comments about the validity of the complaint. I frankly haven't been watching Palin interviews!

Oh man! Just when you thought things couldn't get worse.

As if it isn't enough that Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.) plans to take away our guns, ammo, and bibles, I just heard another very disturbing story from a very reliable source:

Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.) has a large contingent of African WITCH DOCTORS (mostly Kenyan) amassing on his home continent. Once he is in office, President HUSSEIN (B.O.) plans to smuggle said witchdoctors across our borders. Once here, the plan is to strategically use their BLACK MAGIC to place DEMONIC CURSES on top leaders from both the Christian religion and the Republican Party!

According to what I've heard, Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.) is actively trying to recruit other high profile witches, wizards, and sorcerers. The only public response was from Lucius Malfoy who said that although he admires the plan, "I simply can not partake in it. It is far too evil even for me."

    Be afraid! Be very afraid!

I dunno, man. I voted Obama, but I'm (what an odd feeling!) agreeing with those who have said that this is just beating a very-dead, partially decomposed horse. The presidential race is over. Whatever happens to, with, for or about Sarah Palin will be determined by time, not by the continual accusations of those who can't stand to see her fade from the limelight, whether they be accusations born of anger or of support.

There are already enough accusations against Palin for Alaskans and the Alaskan government to wade through; in fact, there are enough to choke said horse, and badgering her, those capable of dealing with her, and the rest of us with more isn't going to force those accusations to be examined and/or prosecuted any faster.

I think someone needs to grow up, sorry your momma didn't hug you enough Zane and you now have woman issues. I hope the media pulls a Joe the Plumber investigates every corner of your life and blasts you for the jack@$$ that you clearly are.

newsreader, nice impersonation of Andrew Briseno's writing style. But I don't think he'll get it. He's like the nicest guy when he talks about the weather, or popping a bottle of bubbly to celebrate his friend's 80th birthday. But get him on any political topic not related to HUSSEIN (B.O.) and he turns it into an Obamamessiah diatribe. Presidential politics just gets him unraveled. Unbalanced in the extreme. He won't get that this is exactly what you're trying to point out to him, newsreader. Nice try, though.

Andrew, what is it about having a democrat and a black man as your President that you don't understand?

As for Palin, I'm losing patience with the lass. Yo, SARAH, where ever you are, get your big hair bun back to Juneau and deal with our budget, why dontcha? Wink, wink.

If her vp campaign has shown nothing else, it's that the closer you look at this person, the more reprehensible she becomes . . . although that's probably true of 99% of the rest of humanity. As to this particular ethics complaint, I'm certain that the more you dig, the more violations you'll find.

Still and all, she needs to get off her celebrity politician high and get back to work being our governor. She's a spotlight junkie who craves attention and believes that there's no such thing as bad press.

    Get back to work, Sarah!

You ladies need to get your big Palin hating buns back to work to pay for all of the incoming social programs. You don't think I'm going to work to support socialism do you? I would much rather shoot my gun and read the bible.

Hate is too strong of a word, but you're right roadtrip, I really don't like her. I lost all respect for her as a consequence of her vp campaign. I'm sick of all the national politics publicity surrounding her and just want her to get back to being our governor again.

The cheering section for the Obamessiah is wide awake right now. Interesting that automatically my valid observations about the Obamessiah are reduced by some to a convenient albeit inaccurate label.... "RACIST". For example the following mindless muse appears directed at me since I do not worship on bended knee the Obamessiah: "Andrew, what is it about having a democrat and a black man as your President that you don't understand?" The inference is obviously drawn by that poster that anyone who is posting "bad things" about Barack Hussein Obama has to be a RACIST because that man is a wonderful Black Man. I have Black friends and acquaintances and during my years as an undergrad at U.C.L.A. I had as one of my roommates for 3 years a Black man. He was a good, moral man who played a pipe organ on multiple levels with hands and feet. Amazingly talented and a wonderful human being. I have had Black Pilot friends who I flew with regularly and I also provided instruction to said pilots. I have no reason to keep carrying on about Black American friends and acquaintances so the foregoing will have to suffice. The density of Mr. Barack Hussein Ohbama's skin pigmentation is not a source of allure and is similarly not a source of antipathy for me. That my skin pigmentation is somewhat less dense than Mr. HUSSEIN (B.O.) and generally a lot denser than most Americans is also not a matter that I typically take heed of in my day to day business and dealings with people. You see, people who look for truth do not care about irrelevant matters such as the density of the skin pigmentation or whether a particular person of either gender has a pony tail or is "portly" or has facial hair. If people find it comforting to ascribe my distaste for the individual, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama, to extraneous and irrelevant matters such as RACISM then such people are very narrow minded indeed. The fault is theirs, not mine.

It is a very sad commentary on the self loathing of many Americans that when "The One" is being identified for what HE IS the person and/or persons who accurately provide argument and explanation to others about why the Obamessiah is not a Leader who will benefit a Capitalist Republic, the Obamessiah's supporters have to denigrate those who have the temerity to speak the truth about "The One".

Rational..... The test of time will bear out who is correct and who deceived themselves with dreams of "HOPE & CHANGE" ... and "YES WE CAN"..... and other mindless platitudes.

    Good night.

Sweet dreams to you, then, Andrew.

Ok, you have black friends, so I'll buy your argument that you're not a racist. But honestly, it would almost make more sense if you were. You express nothing less than pure vitriol about Obama, and if you're not racist, then why do you hate him so much? Why *him* specifically? Surely Hillary made campaign promises that some would regard as extremely socialist. I don't remember reading any rants from you about her. Biden campaigned with Obama and is part of the leadership you don't think will benefit a capitalist republic. Not a peep out of you about him. McCain and Palin campaigned on promises of "hope" and "change" and I don't remember reading any comments of yours that theirs were "mindless platitudes."

Your loathsome comments are focused solely on Obama. If you're not racist, then where's all that hate coming from, and why do you focus it on just him?

what is this country becoming, sounds like a bunch of baby whining, screaming foul, Why don't they get a life and look at they own dirty diapers. The Democrats are getting too much power going to their heads I think. That's alright, four years from now all their dirt will be surfaced.

I wish I'd checked back on this string last night - it's probably too late now, but if you're still out there, the answer is a resounding NO! I most certainly would NOT have accepted McCain's invitation to run as VP (or anyone else's, for that matter) because I'm not qualified. And neither was Palin. I have administerial experience (having run a company with 40 employees and a million dollar budget for 15 years), I certainly have political opinions, I read several newspapers each day (and I can name 'em!) - but I would never have the hubris to believe that I could run the United States of America in the case of the president's demise. I know that about myself. Palin apparently didn't, and demonstrated her lack of qualifications with her extremely limited knowledge of world affairs, her even more limited ability to communicate with adults in proper English, and her deplorable lack of in-depth knowledge about the three branches of government ("the Vice-President runs the Senate... and can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes"). Ummm.. uh uh. So, no - I wouldn't have accepted a job of that caliber, and no, I'm not jealous of her book deal. She can write whatever book she wants, and conduct whatever interviews she desires - on her own time and in her own home. Conducting them in her office, when she's already said that she "might" be interested in higher office, clearly does violate the ethic laws she helped put in place.
