Fairbanks-based Strykers destroy weapons cache in Iraq

Published Tuesday, November 25, 2008

FAIRBANKS -- Fort Wainwright-based Stryker Brigade soldiers helped destroy two weapons caches uncovered by Iraqi police on Nov. 20, according to an Army news release.

About 7:30 a.m., Iraqi police in the Nidah Region of the Diyala province of Iraq discovered two caches containing materials to make improvised explosive devices.

Coalition forces destroyed 260 pounds of homemade explosives, 200 feet of detonation cord, 10 blasting caps, four anti-personnel mines and two unknown fuses on scene.

“Our finding of this cache will certainly make a dent on terrorists’ activities and their efforts in the area,” said 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division spokesman, Maj. Chris Hyde. “Residents should

be able to sleep a little better tonight knowing that Coalition and Iraqi Forces have removed yet another threat to their daily life.”

Awesome Job Strykers! Way to make a difference. Think of how many of our soldiers and innocent lives were probably saved by helping to destory those homemade exposive devices. Keep safe...
