Whittier facility ordered to cease fuel transfer operations

Published Wednesday, November 26, 2008

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A facility in Whittier has been ordered to cease fuel transfer operations until problems are corrected.

The Coast Guard issued the order after conducting an inspection of Shoreside Petroleum Inc.'s mobile facility.

The inspection is conducted annually to ensure compliance by the petroleum industry with the regulations for transporting and transferring fuel.

Shoreside Petroleum's facility has trucks that fuel vessels with a fuel capacity of 250 barrels or greater.

The Coast Guard found that necessary documentation was not up to date, there was no response drill program in place, and the facility lacked a response plan.
