To the editor:
I still can’t believe the Sarah Palin news. ... It almost feels like the GOP is saying, we can do better with the “American Dream” thing and nominate a housewife.

Believe it.....or.....get over it. The GOP picked a good leader. The GOP got a governor, a woman, a mom and a big game hunter. She can control a budget, change dirty diapers, shoot, field dress and cook a caribou. Name me any other vice-presidential candidate who could match that.
To compare. What if Hillary Clinton was the democrats pick for vice-president. Your letter would then read:

Hey Hillary is a mom too! Well maybe Hillary is not what we would consider a housewife and we know she can't shoot a caribou so I stand corrected. Hillary would not be the "American Dream" thing you refer to in your letter. Sorry, my error.

Maybe what is important is the fact that the political family dynasty with their sense of entitlement may just come to an end. The Bushes, Clintons, Kennedy, etc, had formed a new type of monarchy in this country. They say big government is cradle to grave, no political life in Washington had become from cradle to grave. Both parties have shown that a new comer not linked to old family ties or having spent their life in politics can become important political figures.
She's a strong, willful woman who has shown she can get things done. She is a breath of fresh air. Some people can't handle that or don't know how to handle that, and so attack on whatever they can find. Oldest trick in the political book; find anything that makes her look bad and run with it. The saddest part is, many people are not voting for McCain/Palin simply because her daughter is pregnant, which MUST mean she has no morals! *note sarcasm* Even worse, some are not voting because her son has down's syndrome. Where has this country's intellect gone?!

I am not so much sure that the shooting a big game animal is as important as NOT shooting your hunting partner. As far as Veeps goes, if this ticket gets elected, I would hunt with her over Cheney any day!
That being said, I am not really sure how this qualifies her to be a Vice President. Give it about 8 years, and come back...then she could be great.

I was quite surprised by the news as well. The choice of Sarah Palin seems a bit contrived and patronizing. However, when I see how upset and angry the leftists have become, it proves to me that the McCain campaign is on the right track...
We have never had another woman VP, let alone another woman VP candidate, so there is nothing to compare Sarah to. Saying she doesn't fit the criteria is lacking in any proof on what a woman VP should be.

I am confused John - why do you say the leftists are upset and angry? Seriously, no hidden meaning in that question nor am I starting a fight. Here's what I am seeing and hearing.
I got a call from my daughter the other day, who is a student a Savannah College of Art and Design. She was having a big discussion with her friends (many of whom can be considered leftists, but some of whom are staunch Republicans as well) and they were *all* flabbergasted. Those who were leaning to the left were overjoyed at what they see as a tremendous blunder by the Republican party. Those who were staunch Republicans were upset and confused as to why McCain would do this to them, and were wondering if he was really trying to lose the election. BTW, these are quotes from them. So I am confused as to why anyone would think those on the left are upset and angry? That's just not what I am reading and hearing.
I love how so many people say that Governor Palin is not qualified to be Vice President. According to the constitution to serve as Vice President, an individual must:
Be a natural born U.S. citizen
Not be younger than 35
Have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years
Not be "constitutionally ineligible to the office of President"
How is Governor Palin not eligible?

twingirl: You must be a young'un, as your knowledge of history is lacking. S. Louise Palin is not the first female VP nominee. The first was Geraldine Ferraro (or should I say, G. Anne Ferraro) in 1984. She didn't help Fritz Mondale much.

All points are relevant and I hope you are not the one doing the hiring at your job, because people can put whatever education they want on a resume. Until you can read between the lines and see what kind of hard work people really do then your team will always lack something (Integrity).

I will never be in the same category as Sarah Palin. I'm a housewife and know where my kids are 24/7 hours a day. Until you have experienced the life of a real housewife, making real sacrifices and choices that make your family better as a whole, you will never know what a real housewife is.

I don't know how old your kids are but if they are in their teens I doubt you know where they are at all times or what they are doing for that matter. Smartmama it is okay to be ignorant but don't be naive. You are right you won't be in the same category as Palin...understatement.

Just curious: do you all know what the President does? When people question her ability to successfully do the job if, G od forbid, she is called upon, it is not meant (at least, from me, maybe not so of others) out of disrespect of her intelligence, energy, etc. She is a fine person, and personally I couldn't care less about her gender, her parenting talents, her ability to shoot wildlife, her middle name, or her shoe size. Running this country is not like running Alaska. McCain has the experience obviously, and so too does Biden. Obama is green, we all know that, but he has at least worked in DC, has international experience, and has a clue how things work down there. You all may not like his beliefs or political views -- fine. But people, be honest: Bush had run Texas, Reagan California before they assumed the Presidency. These states are bigger than many countries. But Alaska?
Can Sarah Palin do it? She may have to. But you all know she was not chosen for her qulifications. There are many incredibly talented, qualified, capable men and women whom Sen. McCain could have chosen. Gov. Palin was not chosen because of her qualifications or ability to lead, and you all know this. Can she do the job? Let's hope so. But calling people names just because they are pointing out the obvious makes you look foolish, that's all. It does't make you right.
I enjoy the fact that the Marxist pro-Barack Hussein Obama contingent from outside is spending such a huge effort at trying to smear Sarah Louise Palin. The actions of the Marxists typically focus on those aspects of Sarah Louise Palin that offend them most; things like Sarah Louise Palin's skill with Hunting and firearms. The fact that such folks belittle such skills speaks volumes to the arrogant ignorance of such posters.
The Chicago style Political HACKS who have historically obtained a great number of votes for their Candidate from the local Cemeteries is hard at work for Barack Hussein Obama.... I think he has a connection with Chicago... No coincidence there; Just Marxist machinations as usual. ;-)
PinHead, what gives you the idea that obama has an idea of how it works out in Washington. What bills did he write, how many did he even vote on? All he has done since becoming a Senator is run for president. When has he ever gone against his party? And we really don't know his views on anything yet. He is just where he is because the left controls the media, and nobody writes any negative articles about him. Just take alook at US magazine and see how the obamas were written about and how they trashed the Palin family in todays issue. No doubt, not fair and balanced!
Also, what has his obama's wife done? (besides going on the View) Cindy McCain has been all over the world fighting against AIDS, and for children and against poverty. What can we expect from her? I am not throwing darts at her, but she would be the first lady if he is elected. Can she do the job?
People should just sit back and watch Palins speech tonight with an open mind, they will she just how impressive she really is. She has made more difficult decisions in her short career than obama has made in his even shorter career.
I think we've seen enough Harvard and Columbia grads in the White House. I'll take the former Miss Congeniality over the Saul Alinsky disciple any day.
Obama's long association with far left radicals contradicts his centrist message that he's trying to sell to America. The DNM and the borough mayor are clearly under the spell of his Cult of Personality. I cannot recall a presidential election where the media has so overtly championed the cause of a candidate as I have in this election. This is happening in spite of all the skeletons this man has.
Tell me where Obama has been treated the same as Palin and her 17 year old daughter these past few days? They tried to feign objectivity in the past, but in the end they make convenient excuses for Obama when things appear rough around the edges.
