Actually she has gone through a few commissioners...what about HSS? What about Chief of Staff Mike Tibbles who is now running Stevens reelection campaign? We never got much knowledge about any of these and the news quickly dies.

What a great idea Scott. Reading all these comments reminds me of what I love about Fairbanks, my hometown. I love the people, the attitude, the lifestyle, the hour-long sunrises and sunsets, the northern lights, the ice carvings, the berries, the quiet and the squawking geese flying in formation in and out of town marking the seasons. I hope you keep and publishes these comments in a book form so people can remind themselves of what they love about the heart of Alaska.

Gosh, what a great idea, getting people involved deeper into the elections. Good charge Newsminer. I hope people will respond to the call. Please be sure to check out people's facts though. Because things go fast and furious during an election, it is real easy for misinformation to take a foothold. I hope other papers pick up on your lead.

You shouldn't make a blanket statement about not knowing of any warm water in Alaska given that we have 105 hot springs in the state. Maybe not sizable enough for boating but we do have warm water in Alaska. In the river in Haines there are thermals as well that keep it thawed, hence the late run of salmon in November that brings thousands of eagles.

You would think after all these years that the Newsminer would spell Bernie Karl's name correctly. It isn't as if he is new to the community, nor reclusive to news stories.
This is a great opportunity for Fairbanks to get national attention - we are the energy capital of America right now and not just for oil, or coal, or geothermal...I think it is all great.

I suspect some credit must be given to Kevin McDonald's Damenti team from 2007 for the ice cannon idea. Great job in expanding the creativity and showing how to have fun in the land of ice and snow.

There was a recent campaign by the smoke free folks to encourage restaurants and bars to go smoke free.
Here is a list of some in Fairbanks (and other cities in Alaska) that have smoke free restaurants.
