There weren't "thousands" of people there. Probably about a thousand.

I won't be able to make it b/c I'll be out of town, but it is wonderful to have EJ come!
I hope everyone who gets a chance to go enjoys such a unique opportunity up here... and disregards the real freaks out there (like flemm).

If only a boycott by the Alaskan Family Council could be a permanent situation - rather than a temporary one.

Congratulations Mitch Seavey!
Maybe I'm not understanding here... but why wouldn't Crane want mushers to know this critical piece of information?
[After mushers left, however, race marshal Al Crane said the winner would actually be decided by elapsed time as is done in sprint races.
“I don’t want them (mushers) to know all the information,” Crane said.]

I don't agree with the letter writer, I think it is fine that the news-miner includes what it does in the police report. It is a reflection of the community and if they didn't put it in - there would be charges of censorship!
I do feel, however, it is irresponsible on the part of the News-Miner not to consistently print judgements in the cases where names are used. Many newspapers have this as policy and it is weird that the News-Miner thinks it is OK to not follow this simple standard procedure. If there is not enough space or time to print both consistently, please don't use the name. It is simple.
thanks

Um, no Dana VanDam. I think it is anyone who HAS sacrificed his or her life for someone or something else. Besides, let's not even get into the whole fact that many young people join the military because they have no other options. That is hardly heroic - that is manipulation by the U.S. government.

5050 - that is a bit of a picky detail. The legislature will likely review the proposal in a special session soon.

Just because you are in the military doesn't automatically make you a hero. Hero is a strong word - let's please not misuse it and take honor away from those who should be given that title (like the Coast Guard rescue swimmer who gave up his seat on the helicopter for a survivor from the AlaskaRanger. He is a hero.)

We really should have some more details about this - I concur with BillyG.
On Judge should go
