Here is what I plan on doing with Alaska's Centennial coming up in January. I am a stamp history collector so i am going to mail return envelopes and letters to various postmasters in Alaska mid December and ask that they return to me a date postmarked Alaska centennial stamp/envelope on the Day of the centennial. The Alaska centennial stamps themselves wont come out until January 09 so i will include a reg self stick stamp with the return envelope so they can exchange it for the centennial one to place on the envelope. This will be somthing to give the kids and grandkids in the future. I looked up the postoffices around Alaska by going to the USPS.com website. You have to add at the end of the zip code - 9998 for it to go to the postmaster.

When i was at North Pole ,AK in 2007 I ate at a very nice mom an pop type restaurant on a corner of a little strip mall north of the hwy intersection .I cannot remember the name of it maybe some of you can refresh my memory of its name, but i do remember behind the cash register they had a photo of some goofy looking hound dogs with buck teeth. I took a pic of that and now have it in my office, it gets lots of laughs. The food there was great, reminded me of home cooked meals here in Oklahoma.Oh by the way i too visited the Santa house and got a pic made of me with Mr. Mrs. Clause, I'm age 55 and still got to see santa haha. Well yall have a nice day there in Alaska , hope to come back again some day for a visit. enjoyed it.

9 degrees in Fairbanks this morning? geesh thats cold enough to make that grizzly bear run off the Alaska state quarter and go hybernate . Looks really pretty there though with the snow.

I see that Fairbanks is getting snow, looks pretty . Here in Oklahoma we are finally cooling down to temps in the 60s today after a stormy night.
We usually get our snows in January - February but we mainly get ice up to 2-4 inches of it sometimes breaking tree limbs, downing power lines etc. Get this - when we do get any snow even as little as 2 inches , schools, colleges close down its recommended by the highway patrol for us not to be out driving on it because lots of Okies arent used to driving on snow or ice and can cause alot of wrecks. we would never make it if we had winters like yall do in Fairbanks, ha ! talk at yall later, i'll be here less im gone.

The Alaska Statehood quarter was released from the US Mints in Denver and Philadelphia Monday Aug. 25th. They should be at banks within the next week or so.

To Smithjoannem,
We need the rain here is southern Oklahoma , please come here for a visit. This time of year we hardly get any rain and the temps for the past two weeks to now (and the rest of the month) range from 98 to 109 with a heat - humidity of 100 to 110. No relief in sight until maybe Early September.

Fairbanks looks so refreshing with a temp of 53 degrees and rain.
Here in southern Oklahoma we are baking with 100 degree plus temps and no rain now in 3 weeks. Right now as I type this it is 103 degrees and a sweltering high humidity. We are praying for rain and cooler temps.

Here in Okla we have a meal called a Hobo dinner which consists of a hamburger patty, potato's , carrots, onions all wrapped in a piece of foil paper and baked in the oven at 350 util done. This might be a good meal to serve on a boxcar. Will someone at the news office see that the owner of the boxcar gets this idea to see if he likes it? thanks.
