I agree with the need for the right hand turn lanes at the intersection of geist and johansen, constructive suggestion.

I bartended for years and had a guy who worked as an engineer for someone who helped build the overpass for the parks at airport way (I remember riding my bike from the University out to my parents house and hitting the stop sign at the end of the highway with an arrow pointing to Fairbanks and one to the Airport, the overpass was sitting unfinished about 1500 ft south in the middle of the woods)
This guy told me that his job was to find the short cut that would cut costs and help guarantee future federal funding for the road system. Funding from the feds comes for new construction and maintenance fell under state costs; when someone dies there is justification for 'new construction', what ever that is from a new light to guard rail to modifying the angle of an off ramp to accomodate for local weather. That guy told me it was his job to figure out what that was for each site that was built. I dont know how true it is, but that is what he told me one night after a couple.

Keep asking for a four wheel drive that has the gas mileage of a two wheel and hold your breath till it comes, right? Come on guys, four wheels, two axles; that has got to use more fuel to move, common sense says so and it doesnt matter who made it.

I do have a sense of humor, yes TAC, when i hear something funny I know it and sarcasm is still the easiest form. Even to black and white linear thinkers like myself.

If i filed a tax return or a grant submission and was expecting a certain amount back that when it finally arrived was double or off by say $17 million I would be expected to know better than spending it before checking things out. Sorry guys, should have double checked.

hairbrain & olypopper- I believe that you two are thinking of Woody from the movie A Toy Story, the line goes "they poisoned the water hole".

truth in news- after living in Fairbanks for over 30 years, when the recession you speak of is full swing, those no longer needed towers will be a good source of hard to get parts to use on everything from the toaster oven to a firewall for an old drip stove. Way out here at the end of the highway parts is hard to get sometimes in a pinch, good to know they will be stacked 300 ft high in a neighbors back yard. I will be more than happy to help them remove them when the time comes.

siamiam- The mazda platform is a ford platform- owned too. They dont have to worry about selling what they own to themself.

Wow Frank, maybe that is your point of view and not everyones (obviously). I seem to recieve calls every where except down by Skinny Dicks and again by the Monderosa, neither is anywhere near the new towers. So if they are not for better reception, then they must be so that the GPS in your cell phone can be used to track your movement in the event that someone should need to. Wait, isnt that a new service that they are offering? I guess that makes me just like our local government, in firefighter mode reacting to things because I dont know how to see them things coming. Sigh.

Billy- I can only ask 'come on', the nature of a horse and the nature of a bear or wolf are completely different. I would be more likely to believe (openly an assumption with no supporting fact other than probability) that the damage that had occured the first time to her horses causing her to feel a need to protect them was due to the fact they might not have been able to defend themself. In other words, what if her horses where in a confined area and they just got too close and everyone started thrashing around causing their own damage? That is not an attack (like a bear or wolf) and is far more likely, and I personally do not feel that is worth killing an animal over. Neither does the shooter, that is why she stated that she would never have shot the horses, she only wanted them off her property. She obviously does not know how to handle a weapon otherwise she would have shot over their head, like she stated, and it would have actually gone over their head. Lift that barrel girl.
