Ideally, all the religious zealots would be fighting peacefully, and the idealists wouldn't be disrespectful when their elders are talking. If the writer is advocating the ideals and conduct of protesters who broke more than glass at the Republican convention, then it follows that the attack on the twin towers was just an idealist protest driven by determination, unity, coherency and intelligent strategy.
I gladly take my shoes off to keep those ideals from becoming another reality. Our rights are not being infringed by law abiding citizens. The terrorist being held as enemy combatants should have been shot on sight and hung with a new rope for good measure then bathed in pig blood and it should be recorded and played on international TV three times a day. It is unconscious following of ideals that lead to innocent bloodshed. I thought that one plane hitting the twin towers was too many.
Our enemies realized that one lone plane would be forgotten or dismissed as a random act and they do not care that you can no longer donate freely to their charities. They hate you. They hate your ideals. They hate your freedom. They will kill your children, your NEOCON enemies, and your liberal friends because they do not understand a culture where everyone is equal. Talking to them and embracing their ideals will not resolve their hatered.

tok242, The difference between attacking an occupation and defense of one's personal experience is the context. Governor Palin said the difference between a small town mayor and a community organizer is that the mayor actually has responsibility.
I would have gone one further and said that the mayor is a community organizer who was selected by the people to represent them. The mayor manages an organization that solves problems that community organizers identify. The community organizer tells people they have a problem and builds support to fight for the organizer's solution to a problem they didn't previously know they had or care enough about to solve themselves. Every official in Government should have good organizational skills, but only a few actually have executive leadership skills.

Not a surprise that urban California is against development of natural resources.

It was a good speech. She does better talking off the podium using her "book" than the teleprompter, but for the second time that she has probably ever used that media to deliver a speech, she did as well or better than an 8 year veteran.

I would like to know how conservative democrats feel about the candidates. The media is so wrapped up in our differences that the common ground is being pushed aside for sensationalism. A good example is Hanity and Combs on Fox. They are co-anchors who have a vested interest in the show surviving, but spend all their efforts dividing the nation by inviting extremists from both sides of every issue to present the best argument. It's like watching professional wrestling, good entertainment, but not a lot of information that will help people.

Representative Coghill, Thank you. What happened to conducting an independent investigation Senator French? The Governor is running for federal office, and you sir still serve the people of this state only! Any media from outside the state should receive the following statement from the Legislature: "Alaska is conducting an impartial independent investigation into the allegations. Once the investigation is complete, the results will be released to the public. Any charges stemming from this investigation will be referred to the appropriate authorities. No further comment is appropriate."

BigMike: Alaska is that island just west of California about the size of Oregon according to most weather maps in the lower 48.
The legalease of wordsmithing has begun. Governor Palin defended her experience as a mayor versus Senator Obama's experience as a community organizer. Wasilla is an average size town for a State like Illinois where the average town population is 8577.
This is not the nation of the offended. If her words offended anyone reading this, then you need to buck up. You need to remember what it is like to actually be attacked as this nation was nearly seven years ago. If she were attacking community organizers rather than defending her own experience you would know it very clearly.
Both presidential candidates need to get off the stump, and start talking to experts on economics, trade, and national defense to facilitate a smooth transition of power. Obama will have an especially difficult transition if he continues to ignore the fact that the budget he inherits will be passed by a democratic congress and the fiscal policies will be those of President Bush. Who ever is elected needs to aknowledge that fact early and start building a plan to integrate their agenda into the current reallity.

Welcome to Alaska outdoorsman. $3,269 sounds like a lot to the average American, but just to put it in perspective, the State sells most of our mineral resources and the citizens' burden for Alaska's government is over $16,000 per resident. Yes, that is every man woman and child claiming the PFD. 25% or ($4000 this year) of that goes directly into the Permanent Fund to be invested and disbursed over time, and just like any other investment fund the dividend is based on the stock market performance. The other $12,000 goes into the state general fund and pays the bills. Ten percent of that was returned to the people this year as the resource rebate to help offset the high increase in Alaska fuel prices.
Alaskans collectively "sell" oil based on the profit margin of the producers, which is graduated based on the price of oil. The higher the price, the higher percentage of the profit goes to the state. So when profits are good for the producers, the state benefits. Companies also get credits for exploration and get to take their costs out of the equation to encourage more exploration and production. It is working here and can be applied to a national energy plan. We will have to wait and see if our model evolves into part of the national strategy to reduce the dependence on foreign oil.

BigMike,
I am not so sure it is the Democrats going out on the limbs. The Independent party was holding rallies in MN and a counter convention. If it is the far left liberals stirring the pot then they aren't very supportive of Obama's call to cut out the personal attacks, showing the rest of the world that mud slinging is only one of the unchanged tactics in their blind persuit of change. For all the talk of change from the Democrats, I would expect them to reach out more to undecided Republicans instead of complaining that the Republicans aren't reaching out enough to their undecided voters.
Perhaps my understanding of lawyers taking a hypocritical oath is just prejudicial. If we bring every soldier home from Iraq, does that mean the war on terrorism in Iraq is over, or will we only fight it in Afghanistan while Iraq takes care of their own fledgling democraic government among so many democratic neighbors?

pixyfae, I agree with you.
reality's point was wrongly applied to Alaska. The collective bargaining by the State government for the sale of oil is more of a coop than a socialist state. We have private property, we also have public lands. Ours just produce more wealth than the average state park or recreation area.
