I think we are looking at different aspects of the child support thing. Are their cases where child support is needed? Of course. But scroll up, I believe it was Newsreader that posted that he makes 5 times what his childs mother does, and he doesnt NEED the child support. He stated he goes to a movie and dinner with what he gets.
The child support system assumes two things: 1. The Mother will have custody of the children. 2. She needs financial support in order to raise the child/children. The system was created in a time where women primarily stayed at home and raised children. Today is a little different. A more and more common "what if" is when there is a seperation of the parents and the custodial parent makes MORE then the non-custodial. Yet the one still pays 20% of their income to the other.
Dont think that I am saying a parent shouldnt help with their child. What I am saying is money is not a substitute for parenting. I think many people connect the two and equate the one with the other.
YES, there are parents who need the money for support. Real support.

I keep hearing the "its for the kids" cry followed by "put the guy in jail if he doesnt pay" or "take away his license." How are either of those actions going to feed the baby? I think, and this is just me yapping here, there are a lot of people who think it is justice to have the other parent pay, or suffer in some manner. Go to jail or something. To them its not child support. It is retribution. Read some of the posts above and tell me you dont see that attitude.
Providing financial support for your children is part of parenting. But it is only a small part. Our materialistic society has seemingly summed up parenting by equating it to a dollar amount.
There is more to it then money. Being there when you can and setting a good example is one.

Did a McDonalds employee pour coffee on this woman? Thats the only way I see it being a legitiment case. Coffee, by its very nature, (less you go for the cold fru fru ones) is hot. If you spill it on yourself, thats your own fault.
I hope this guy is cleared. For his sake and ours. Think of the precendent this would start.

40 Billion in profits on 400 Billion in sales. Go figure out that profit margin and then compare it to other industries. I will save you the trouble, its low. Oil companies are also taxed more then many other industires.
I am not a rich oil company exec. I do understand the principle of supply and demand. There has not been a new refinery built in the US in 30 years. Attempts to build nuclear and (getting more "green" every day) coal power plants have been blocked in OUR government for years.
You cant have it both ways. You want cheap gas, you have to allow drilling and the refining capacity to go with it.

Cell phone registration would solve everything. Could use the registration fee (Of course there is a fee!) to pay for the medical care of people injured by driving cell phone users.
There is no limit to what a government will do once the stupid door has been opened.
