I can only hope that Obama will reduce the military presence in Alaska. As for ANWR, with a democratic president and a democratic congress, I think you can forget about drilling there. yay!

Anyone that thinks any politician is a good politician should get a check up from the neck up, even more important for someone who would support a politician that has proven herself to be untrustworthy.

“My life has been an open book,” she said. “And my life is an open book today, and Americans deserve to know the background, the associations, the affiliations of a vice-presidential candidate. I’m willing to continue to be an open book.”

Asked specifically whether she would release her medical records, Palin initially said she would but then seemed to waver.

Open book?
I remember something about a lawsuit to seal records of emails regarding the Palins trying to get trooper Wooten fired. It seems to me that she only opens the book when it suits her.
Apparently, despite the fact that she
likes to tell us she fights corruption, she just fights against corruption when it doesn't benefit her.
To me she appears to be just as crooked as all the rest of the politicians, republicans, democrats, and all the others.

I sure am glad we have someone like Sarah fighting to clean up our government.
BTW, what is the feminine equivalent of the corrupt bastards club?

Hey Olypopper!
What do you say we start our own chapter in Fairbanks?

Peccavi, lighten up...............and if you learn how
to spell, and learn some sentence structure, people might
even take you seriously. On second thought probably not,
there would still be the content issue.

Not too long ago I read in the Stars and Stripes (the newspaper published by the military) that over 50% of present military personnel have criminal records. There have even been some people let in that have 2 felony convictions.
I know that there are also good people in the military, but I believe that the good ones are the minority.
Also, you people that are so concerned with having more and more money that you want a lot of growth and the military presence in Fairbanks for the economy, and big PFD checks .................did you really think you would not have to take the bad with the good?
If you didn't expect the culture of Fairbanks and the rest of Alaska to change for the worse, you are either not very bright, or you were blinded by greed.

Use money from the PFD to buy something frivolous like fuel-oil?
Are you nuts?
C'mon, we're Alaskans. We're the entitled. We should have everything we desire served up to us on a silver platter. We won't have any money left from our dividends after we buy necessities like trucks, four-wheelers, snow machines, boats, and such.
That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

About 20 years ago I was in Galena for a few days. I met a young native man (maybe 17 or 18?) who was hired to help me with some work. I was curious about the place, and the people that lived there so I asked a lot of questions. He was not real talkative but seemed like a decent guy, and he was good worker. I thought we were getting along well. At some point he told me that he had been setting leg hold traps on the sandbars in the river for geese. He told me that he had caught a lot of them. I assumed that they were for food, and it being spring I wondered how he would keep them, so I asked. He told me he wouldn't keep them, he just killed them and left them lay. When I asked him why, he answered "so there will be less for the white man"
About a year and a half ago I went to Shishmaref, I met a man there who helped me with my business and showed me around the village. When we were done I asked if there was anyplace I could get something to eat. He said there were no restaurants or anything like that and offered me lunch at his house. He had a polar bear rug hanging on his wall, I commented that I had never seen a polar bear. He told me that he saw a sow and 2 cubs a couple of days previous south of the village. He suggested that after lunch we take a couple of his snow machines and go see if they were still there. I agreed.
He took a rifle, and on the way there was some open water where there were seals. He stopped his snow machine and started shooting at one of them. I asked how he would get the seal if he killed it. He said he wouldn't.
I realize this is only 2 experiences with natives hunting, but it makes me wonder how much these kinds of things happen.
Is it ok in their culture to kill animals just to kill them, or did I just happen to run into the odd natives that had poor hunting ethics?
Just to be clear, this is not an accusation, this is relating facts and posing a question. I do not have anything against natives.

Food on the table? I believe this is more about
antlers on the wall and money in the pockets.
I hunt, and I don't want to see predators
decimate game populations, nor do I want to see predator
populations managed to low levels so game populations can
increase to line the pockets of guides. The state (our)
resources do not owe guides a living.
Food on residents tables should come first.
