How is Palin's stance an example to be glorified when she denies women and, yes, even children, the choice to end the forced pregnancy resulting from rape and/or incest?

Everyone's out campaigning. Sen. McCain and Sarah Palin were in New Mexico. They were having lunch at a diner. I thought this was so sweet. She was there cutting his meat for him.

I think this is pertinent because McCain has been running this campaign based on "We're at war, it's a dangerous world out there. The Democrats don't get that. I, John McCain, am the only one standing between the bloodthirsty Al-Qaeda's and you. But if I die, this stewardess can handle it."

As usual, the forward thinking residents of other communities are putting us to shame. Instead of crying about not wanting to pay for a better quality of life, they are looking to find ways to provide it. I am sure this comment will bear the usual attacks, but when we look at other communities in our state, they are the haves and we are the have-nots.

Anyone else wonder why this is true for Anchorage and not for Fairbanks?

"CHUGIAK -- Beginning tonight, those dirty, muddy, grass-stained varsity uniforms will be a thing of the past for Anchorage football players.
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be on hand at Chugiak Stadium to help the Mustangs unveil their new $1.35 million artificial turf project in a 7 p.m. season opener against Gov. Sarah Palin's alma mater, the Wasilla Warriors.
"It's a dream come true for this community," Chugiak coach Duncan Shackelford said. "Hats off to the governor, state representatives and (Chugiak/Eagle River) Parks and Recreation to help make this happen."
Of the three venues for Anchorage varsity football teams, Chugiak Stadium offered the last natural grass surface. Dimond Alumni Field switched to artificial turf last summer -- as did Begich Middle School and Eagle River High School. The city-owned Anchorage Football Stadium switched from grass to AstroTurf in 1982."

Lowell Purcell took a rookie who happened to have a voice that worked well over a PA system and offered his guidance and friendship. He was always there when I had questions, would buy lunch, and share stories that told lessons valuable to getting the job done. He taught me "more is less" and "use your voice to paint a picture". I will miss him and his e-mails and his always ready smile.

Via Con Dios, Lowell.

I hate it when Dermot leaves without telling us. The paper is so much less than it already is when he is gone.
