"With the proper training and time spent on them, parrots can also be made to sound as though they understand what they are saying. It may take longer than the three weeks McCain's handlers spent with Palin, but the effect is much the same."

I agree. It's much more presidential to just make stuff up:

On Palin reprises success

"The outcome of the change is unknown because of a lack of research."

In other words, this is all speculation.

The Ordovician period (roughly 445 to 488 million years ago) had atmospheric CO2 levels estimated at 8 or more times what we have today; yet all kinds of sea life, including corals seemed to do just fine. This would seem to indicate that Short's concerns are a bit overblown.

"These political blogs are quickly becoming a freakin joke, do any of you REALLY think you are going to change the opinions of the other side"

Probably not, but it's fun to watch them foam at the mouth.

On Palin's husband refuses to testify in Troopergate probe

"As I've heard so often in the past, if there's nothing to hide, why not testify?"

1) Because the purpose of the "investigation" is not to uncover any truth, but to harass the Governor. The "investigation" is being instigated by a member of the opposing political party who has been quoted as saying that it was going to be an "October surprise" for the republicans.

2) Because, even if "guilty", the Governor lawfully fired a political appointee who serves at her discretion.

"And if there was nothing to hide, why conduct state business on a throwaway email account? "

It wouldn't have been thrown away if an Obama supporter hadn't hacked into the account and e-mailed it's contents, including the names & contact information of her family to the world.

Well, my worthy opponents . . . I'm outta here for a while (on the clock, and all that). Feel free to declare victory and do the happy dance. I'll try to catch up with you all later.

"I will admit that recent history has shown that there literally is no such thing as common sense." I completely agree with the sentiment, although probably for different reasons than you do.

"All we have is the commitment of TransCanada to apply for permits. That's about as far from running gas to the line as me saying I am committed to travel to the moon."

There seems to be plenty of activity. I worked a couple of hundred miles out of town this summer, and the place was crawling with surveyors for the project. I think they were with Denali, but if AGIA was what it took to light a fire under their butts, then it was probably money well spent.

"Bristol Palin is the only real victim in this mess, she is stuck with a child she doesn't want and with a dude she only slept with once out of boredom."

Have you been hiding under Bristol's bed and bugging her cell phone? Or do your spider senses tell you these things.

"you could list a few positive things that Palin has done for us that no one other than her could have done" That's a pretty high standard. OK. You got me. She probably hasn't ever done anything that absolutely no one else could have done. I would bet money that she can't leap tall buildings in a single bound. She probably can't feed 5000 with a few loaves and fishes. It's doubtful that she can walk on water. What she has done is start to clean up corruption in state government and has, apparently, gotten the gasline project moving ahead. There are probably plenty of other people who could have done these things. It's just that none of them did.

"She has the power to change all of this - sit down with a reporter that will ask unscripted questions and get the unscripted answers"

She would have the power to change all of this if the country had an honest and impartial press. The problem is that the media are overwhelmingly in the bag for Obama and will not allow any depiction of the Governor that would help her candidacy. Case in point: this newspaper. Despite an 80%+ positive image in the state, the DNM has been unwilling to publish anything that reflects positively on her. Another case in point: Comparisons of the unedited transcript of the Gibson interview with what was broadcast show that her remarks were chopped up to make her appear less knowledgeable and more belligerent.
With regard to press coverage, she is in a no-win situation.
