If Governor Palin was on the other side of the aisle campaigning for Democrat Jim Martin instead of Saxby Chambliss, I'm sure Democratic Party chairwoman Higgins would be deathly silent right now.

Be that as it may, Governor Palin does need to be reminded that her job is in Alaska.

"""Will Alaska pay a price for ousting Stevens?"""

Actually this could be a wonderful opportunity to learn to how to fend for ourselves and lessen our reputation as federally dependent gov-addicts.

Hahahahahaha! Oh well. It was a nice thought while it lasted.

There's very little need to drill offshore Arctic Ocean when there's plenty of oil onshore to fill TAPS and then some.

But unfortunately, environmental groups (by their uncanny ability to control Alaska through the courts and outside political forces) have made that impossible as well.

It's not important for Mr. Begich bring home any bacon. In fact, it's better he doesn't bring back any federal reserve crank at all.

It is important that he fight to defend Alaska's 10th Amendment rights.

I think it's a little early to be so hard on Pres-elect Obama. None of us really knows what he is going to do and like every president before him he deserves his honeymoon period.

But almost every president and congress since Lincoln has contravened the Constitution in one way or another and I will be watching the Obama Administration as well as the Pelosi/Reid Congress carefully. Especially in regard to Alaska's rights under the 10th Amendment.

Joe Murphey.

I apologize. I should have said it was the generalized "living document philosophy". Indeed it was not "your idea" personally.

I agree there was a time when it was up to local state/state governments as well as public charity to respond to natural disasters and now it is up to the largess of the federal government. This and along with a multitude of economic calamities and social ills both foreign and domestic have led our federal government into ever increasing deficits and debts it may never repay.

Joe Murphey,

Sorry, but it's your "living document" idea that got us into this mess(Iraq War).

Prospector,

I already have my hands full with the 10th Amendment, but maybe you can help out with that one(War Powers Act of 1973).

Oh, and I can't think of any greater threat to liberty than the notion of a "flexible, evolving, living Constitution".

Prospector,

I believe the war in Iraq is a wonderful example of the absolute, collosal failure that is the War Powers Act of 1973.
