Frontier is the worst. 2 weeks ago I flew to Kotz area and back, excess baggage charge alone, one way for 220 pounds was $670. I need it for my work so it can't go freight. Roadtrip is right, you should see what is on the planes into the villages SODA SODA SODA. The rural economy would improve overnight if folks switched to plain old water. The rates went up fast year, but have not gone down at all.

OK, here goes. I spend a lot of time in northern villages, and am in fact in Kotzebue right now. The news on KOTZ radio reported the troopers said ALCOHOL WAS A FACTOR. No kidding. Last night, and every night during the winter when it's not really cold around here you hear the snowmachines blasting around, at high speed. They don't just go from point to point for transportation, it's wap wap wap, Right in town. I think the only reason helmets are worn is to keep warm, in the summer it's 4-wheelers and I have yet to see a helmeted rider. Many drive fast, 40-50 mph.

Last winter I saw folks searching for a guy who who drove a machine into open water between Shungnak and Kobuk, he was a bootlegger, got drunk and was carrying booze between the villages.

Now an innocent guy is dead and a woman badly injured, unfortunately they will not be the last ones.

Well I see nothing has changed in the years since I was a hockey parent. Parents are usually the problem. When little Johnny doesn't get enough ice time the whining starts. Game times aren't what you like? More whining. Squabbles between parents when it comes to fundraising, so and so isn't putting in as much time as we are, yada yada yada. Little Johnny gets suspended or kicked off a team, and the fur starts flying again.

What a great example is being set for the kids, who simply want to play hockey, without the drama and their parents making fools of themselves.

The organizations and coaches, as well as ice time schedulers, etc. face a lot of obstacles to running their programs, can't we all get along?

You don't know what you are talking about. That accident had nothing to do with the outage.

I will be sad to see Samson's go too. But guess what, they will probably reopen again. I get a little tired of all the whackjobs in town crying every time a piece of "Old Fairbanks" goes away. Take a photo, watch it get torn down, and GET OVER IT. Illinois is a very busy road, with a brain dead traffic pattern to get across the river. I think Corinne and some of her friends should chain themselves naked to the front of the store when the excavators start to work....

So who did Jeff piss off to get them on his bad side. You watch, nobody will get prosecuted for the Caribou slaughter near Point Hope, and Jeff will go down for one lousy Moose.

a1shiva, you should know what you are talking about before putting your foot in your mouth. I think you are referring to David Lace, a good friend of mine. Your statement is wildly inaccurate also, Dave had permission to put his road in, but the permitting process got tangled up in government red tape. All that was eventually straightened out. It is simply a winter trail, and contrary to your statement that he "ran a dozer through all the test areas of trees", nothing could be farther than the truth. But that is par for the course for this forum, and the Fairbanks regulars that hang out here.

I just got back from Barrow a couple days ago, made two trips this month. It's amazing how "the football bug" has bitten in Barrow. Everywhere you go you see "Go Whalers" signs, you hear about the team on the radio, and in the store and around town, you see the kids from the team with their Jerseys on just like any other american town. Kudos to those who helped get the program off the ground. I think they have started a tradition and will only keep getting better.

Woodman-

You are a pathetic excuse for a Fairbanksan. I think you have too much time on your hands too. You never have anything positive to say, and I imagine you like to kick you dog also. There are some people (like Dodson) who are trying to make a difference in the interior, diversify our energy sources, increase employment with higher paying jobs, and help ensure our future, then there are those who like you (and MANY others in this town) that can do nothing other than complain, bitch, and subscribe to government conspiracy theories. Get a life.

Nothing like a feel good story like to make your day. Andy and Boo will fit right in here. Fairbanks has lots of folks like him I think. It's also nice to see a few non-controversial, fun stories once in awhile.
