We will be transferring to Fairbanks mid July with my job. LOVE the webcam and check the website daily to see what's happening in Fairbanks.
In discussing our upcoming move with friends and family we've heard that in Fairbanks there isn't any garbage pickup service, that residents need to "deal" with it on their own. Truth or Rumor?

I am truly looking forward to moving to Fairbanks from Iowa in July and have been checking out the News Miner website daily. I am interested to know the cost of entering the lottery. Is there a website for the Ice Classic?

toocents-Not sure when you will be moving to Alaska. If it is during shortened daylight hours and you choose to drive keep in mind the minimal daylight and the potential wildlife you could encounter (and not be able to see) on the roads.
Locals are great about advising what needs to be done to winterize vehicles, winter clothing, etc., etc. Being in the military gives you the advantage of even more resources - military and other military families.
You may want to check out my blog to see what we've experienced since moving here in July as my husband and I are also newbies to Alaska. http://alaskabghadventure.blogspot.com/
Best of luck to you in your travels. I'll keep you in my prayers for safe travel and adjusting to the Great North.
