The amount of negative comments is a shamefull. The article uses the word Global Warming because it is occuring. Even Ted Stevens says so. These folks are drilling to understand, they are not saying the know the answers. Why did folks start bashing environmentalist? This article had nothing to do with environmentalism just good old fashioned research. I'm sure you all have good points to make but you ruin it by just blasting folks needlesly. Please, let's stick to the topic and have insightful constructive comments.

Can anyone out there mention a time when a large oil field was opened anywhere in the U.S. which caused the oil companies to noticably drop the price of gas at the pumps? Remember that we all (environmentalist and non-environmentalist) are paying much more at the pumps while oil companies are reporting record profits. This IS great for Alaska in many ways but hard on the average wallet. I am in no way convinced that any of these companies are going to lower our cost at the pump just because a new area is open. Why is oil the only answer folks want to focus on? Just because Bush says that's our answer? If we focus all this this time and money on producing wind, hydro and solar energy resources we can get allot acomplished and get away from dependency on foreign oil. If you don't want to pay allot for oil then let's ween ourselfs off of it. The sooner we start the better off we will be. Opening ANWR is a small bandaid, we need a cure.

This news article does start with the quote about keeping the wolf nice and pretty for the tourist. Hard to deny that. But if any of you were listening to NPR this morning you would have heard the interview with the individual that made that comment. He said his primary goal was for the saftey and well being of the wolf but that it will also be a good thing that the tourist don't have to see it. If they had wanted to keep the eye sore of a snare out of the tourist eye they could have just shot the animal. They went through great efforts to make sure the wolf stayed alive. I think that speaks volumes.

Well said newsreader. There is too much hate spread with use of the Bible. Just look at the comments above to find proof of this. I am straight and support people's freedom of choice.

I'm glad to see there is so much support for legalization. What I choose to do IN MY HOME should not concern anyone as long as I'm not bothering someone else. I don't drink hard liquor or smoke tobacco. Nor has weed opened a "gate way" for me to use harder drugs. In fact, when I have weed I don't drink alcohol at all and feel better in the morning for it. Please, let's work together to decriminalize this plant that God gave us.

Whether you are pro-environment or pro-development I'm sure no one is for spending any more money on gas than they need to. Stevens, Murkowski, Bush and friends keep talking about how we need to open ANWR to reduce the cost of oil but none of them advocate for significantly more fuel effecient automobiles. Is it really feasable to believe the folks that tell us that opening up this little swath of the arctic is going to reduce oil cost? Really? By how much?.. a dollar?... a quarter?... a few cents? Who out there notices a drop in oil prices every time a new oil field is open in the U.S.A.? The talk sounds good but lets use some critical thinking skills please.
