I'd love to see improvements on south cushman first. Rarely go over there but when I do, my car definitely feels the pain. As for the University Rd debacle, I don't see that main intersection as being the problem so much as the turn before the train tracks. Surprised I haven't seen more accidents from some people suddenly stopping, using their turn signal at the last second to make that left. BLINKERS ARE THERE FOR A REASON PEOPLE! :)

As great as restraining orders are in theory, I have to agree with LostAlaskan, in that they really don't do much. If in fact the person they are "keeping at a distance" is truly a dangerous individual. The person who is being restrained is only being held back by a piece of paper. Sadly, there is not much more the justice system can do about individuals without some sort of proof, which is normally through violence. I've also heard of cases where the women are guilty of D.V. and yet it is the men who pay the price because of lying or false reports, it's greatly biased toward women.
I agree with many, and am grateful we are opening a department who will be focusing only on D.V. Hopefully once the program starts rolling, the public will hear how it's benefiting or not benefiting, the community.

My thanks go out to all those who are soldiers, in whatever branch. As unfortunate as anyone's death is, it calls to mind the sacrifice each family is prepared to make as one enters a war. Thank you for standing by them as they serve our country, despite political agenda.
My heart goes out to his family, especially wife and child.

A vehicle that could handle speed?? So you're saying a newer car with a better built engine would have been okay doing over 100 mph. Despite what people think, having the best tires and newer cars won't prevent accidents. Black ice and sharp movements at any speed can take a car/truck off the road...

I'm house sitting for a co-worker out on Badger Road and it was unreal to me just how slippery the roads were, and only in certain sections! It took the entire weekend for them to finally put sand/gravel out on some areas where I could only go 30mph, and still felt the car slipping. Trying to stop was a joke, even coasting to a stop, I had to pump my brakes. I'm nervous every time I see someone driving up close behind me...regardless of four wheel, all wheel drive or anti-lock brakes, better to be more cautious than having to deal with insurance claims!!! The ice doesn't care what kind of tires/car you drive!

Sounds like a great program, better than just having a place for our honored vets to sleep and eat. I like hearing they're going in depth with it, focusing on helping them with lifelong skills in order to get back on track with careers and living a life off the streets. I agree with fairbanksforever, they should receive more than they do for all they have sacrificed. I hope to read updates on this program next year after it has been up and running. God bless our vets!
