Today’s talk in Anchorage is all about Point Thomson, the big North Slope unit that holds a bunch of oil and natural gas.
In years past, the unit has been described as critical for a natural gas pipeline project. Now it’s fairly clear the gas won’t be available at the start of a project, but Gov. Palin’s team is saying the TransCanada plan can work anyway. People I’ve talked to are trying to remember what they said before and whether this is a flip-flop.
Anyone?
The unit was recently dissolved because of unit operator Exxon Mobil’s failure to develop it, and is the subject of litigation now. (This is actually becoming a side story for today.)
Right now, a handful of engineers are talking about reservoir simulators, pressure flow rates, and ultimate recoverable hydrocarbons.
