Shooting for some money
Published Monday, March 17, 2008
Representatives from the Territorial Sportsmen, Friends of the NRA, and Juneau Shooting Sports all testified this morning in favor of state funding for three state-owned shooting ranges in Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Juneau. Two of them were former directors of the state's wildlife conservation division, which oversees the ranges.
The Senate Finance Committee removed about $675,000 in funding for the ranges from the state's operating budget last week. Sen. Joe Thomas of Fairbanks said Monday he's trying to get some money put back in and thinks other lawmakers are warming to the idea.
I was very impressed by the sportsmen's groups who were there to testify. They were well organized, passionate, educated and vocal!
This is just one example of the impact public testimony can make. If you value something, please speak up to defend it, whether it's funding prevention, victim services, tourism, sports activities, education...your voice does count.
