I'm not a young Alaskan, but those of you who are will want to know about the Forum of Young Alaskans, to take place Oct. 4 in Fairbanks, Anchorgae, Juneau and online that day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
It will be broadcast on public TV and online, so Not-So-Young Alaskans will be able to tune in.
A press release quotes Ian-Michael Hebert as saying: “Alaska was founded on the cutting edge ideas, input, and passion of young people. As we celebrate 50 years of Alaska statehood, we’re using cutting edge technology to connect young people across the largest state in the nation to get their opinions and views on Alaska’s next 50 years.”
This is a UA project "designed to connect young Alaskans from varied geographical locations across the state during simultaneous mass meetings occurring in Fairbanks, Juneau, Anchorage, and other community organized sites, as well as online at www.youngalaskans.org."
They will "discuss, debate, and delve into the issues that are important to them and issues that are affecting the state today. They will share their experiences, knowledge and hopes for the future with each other and Alaska’s opinion leaders," the press release says.
"Using cable broadcasting and Internet technologies, speakers, presenters and participants will converse in the largest live statewide discussion in the history of Alaska, reaching from city centers to hub communities and beyond. The Forum will also incorporate public radio and public television into the multimedia proceedings to ensure participation by as many people as possible."
"With several hundred attendees anticipated, the Forum of Young Alaskans has the ability to make an unprecedented impact on state policy and secure a place at the table for an emerging political force."
The young Alaskans will gather at the at Wood Center in Fairbanks, at the Dena’ina Civic & Convention Center in Anchorage and in the UAS Glacier View Room in Juneau.
