Palin administration earmark requests remain in doubt

Published Friday, September 12, 2008

The Palin administration has requested 31 earmarks from Congress this year with a total value of $200 million.

That total does not include additional millions in other requests from related state entities, such as the Alaska Railroad and the University of Alaska.

Whether the earmark requests will be approved by Congress is unknown.

"With the exception of bills relating to military construction and defense, it is unlikely that other appropriations bills will be enacted anytime soon. Most observers believe that there will be a continuing resolution on the budget, perhaps extending until next year," said John Katz, the governor's representative in Washington, D.C.

"So, we don't have final answers at this time," he said.

Here is a link to the list of the 31 projects.

Thank you for writing this, Dermot. I appreciate you putting earmarks and oil revenues through the lens of history. We Alaskans are spoiled. We have a HUGE sense of entitlement.
