Blog: Rod Boyce: The editor's desk

Correcting my calendar

Published Monday, February 4, 2008

Rod Boyce, assistant managing editor, corrected me on my calendar entry for Gov. Palin. Turns out she's not actually coming here. We'll meet her via the phone in our conference room. I guess something about being copied on that string of e-mails between Rod and the governor's office over the past few weeks -- and months -- got me confused about whether we were meeting or not or whether it was in person or by phone. After awhile you just don't pay that close of attention ... "just let me know when you figure it out and I'll be there." Talking with the governor shouldn't be this difficult. Oh for a return to the days when Gov. Tony Knowles would call us up and debate headlines and story angles. Well, not so much to debate but to tell us how he thought things should be. We seldom agreed --and of course we grumbled about him, too, but in the long run it was good communication.
