Like so many other places throughout the country, Fairbanks GOP polling sites were flooded with voters, both the party-faithful and newly-declared Republicans.
Obama 2-1
Democratic results are in, and with 20 percent of districts reporting, it's Barack Obama by more than 2 to 1 over Hillary Clinton. Obama has 54 delegates and Clinton has just 25. More than 1000 people voted in those districts, already more than voted statewide four years ago.
Goings-on at the District 8 caucus
At the Corinthian Baptist Church, where the Democratic Caucus for House District 8 took place, more than 400 people attended. I am here now, and it is winding down. Obama won, but it's not winner-take-all. Here's the breakdown: Clinton got 124 votes and Obama wound up with 287. I am ...
The undecided movement; the fire marshal is here
The fan out has begun. Tim Sharp, business agent for the laborers' union, is going from room-to-room trying to get people to vote undecided. He says that other states will choose the nominee, and it's the only way to get presidential candidates to take Alaska seriously.

Packed like sardines in Juneau
The Democratic caucus here in Juneau is packed. Literally. You can’t move through the room without “excuse me’s” and a few elbows, and the room in this case is the city’s convention center.
The police are here
The police have asked everyone parked on the street to move their cars. There must be hundreds parked on the streets around this community center. I am in the main room and not one person left to go move their car. One woman I interviewed said she called in sick ...

Alaskans prefer Romney, maybe
Who knew a secret ballot would be so secret?
I'm here at Pike's Landing Hotel, one of the sites for the Republican preference poll, and while the line to the polls has nearly stretched out the door at times, few people are willing to talk to a reporter about their choice for president.
10 more minutes .....
Lines everywhere here at the J.P. Jones Center. Attendance is already a blowout of what they expected, officials said. They will have a number at the end of the night. The main line is so long they are winding it up a set of stairs to the second floor. Someone ...
Turn out, and win
As you watch the Alaska returns trickle in tonight, it will help to keep the following in mind. Regional turnout matters lots for Republicans, less for Democrats.
Confusion here and there
It's not an election today. Really. It's something else.
Mrs. Huckabee says thank you; Obama supporters to host the caucus after-party
Janet Huckabee, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's wife, called the North Pole housewife spearheading local support for the Republican.

No Governator here
Unlike Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, who came out recently for John McCain, Gov. Sarah Palin won’t be endorsing anyone in time for Alaska’s vote today.

Caucusing is not as dirty as it sounds
But it's still a complicated process. If you plan on voting in the Republican presidential preference poll, it's a secret ballot similar to voting in any other general election.
