Mrs. Huckabee says thank you; Obama supporters to host the caucus after-party

Published Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Janet Huckabee, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's wife, called the North Pole housewife spearheading local support for the Republican.

Mrs. Huckabee was in Anchorage campaigning for her husband over the weekend. Rena Cook has been organizing Huckabee supporters through the Web site meetup.com since December.

The call on Saturday was a surprise, Cook said, and lasted about three minutes.

"She basically called just to say thanks for our efforts here," Cook said. "She was just really gracious. An extremely nice lady."

A Huckabee banner made of felt and sewn by Cook will be sent to states where nominating events have yet to take place, Cook said.

As for the Democrats, a bus transporting caucus-goers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks leaves the Eielson Building at 4 p.m. and at 5 p.m., according to Angelee Lloyd, a Barack Obama support.

Lloyd said the Obama group is hosting a party after the the caucuses at The Last Roundup. A room has been reserved.
