Blog: Offbeat Fairbanks
I was just looking through some photographs for sale by the Alaska History Store at the University of Alaska Fairbanks when I came across one of a bear hooked up to a dogsled. Three well-dressed gentlemen are also in the picture, one sitting in the sled and two others holding on to it.
See it here.
The photo was taken in 1926-1927 by Guy F. Cameron in Valdez, Alaska. This is strange on so many levels. One, seeing a bear out and about in the winter just gives me the creeps. Two, I wonder just how well a bear would pull a sled. Did it respond to commands?
