Hey baby, it's getting cold outside

Published Thursday, October 16, 2008

I walked out of my house early Tuesday morning to put the dog out and admire the full moon on the new snow.

Brrrrr.

I didn't stay out long. The temperature by my front door said it was 3 above. The thermometer in my car registered zero on the flats by the Little Chena River. A co-worker said her car showed 5 below zero in the Nordale Road flats.

The official low in Fairbanks on Tuesday was 3 below zero. It's the coldest it's been on that day in Interior Alaska since 1988. Who wants to bet it'll be 20 below when the kids are out trick-or-treating this year?

lol.....wouldn't surprise me. I've seen 30 below by Halloween before up here. The only trick or treaters out were travelling by car and their costumes were basically that of the Michelin man ;). It was quite an eye opener for me coming from NC where it is balmy at Halloween in comparison. It was just a few years ago that we actually began to have trick or treaters at the door in groups!

You know it's cold when you didn't plug in your vehicle. Uh Oh!

I miss the days when you could throw a glass of hot water out of my two story apartment and watch it float away in a cloud, of course it was 50 below down town then (1973). Is global warming on the way? I think yes but no one is listening.
